Lewis Hamilton has joined Formula 1 legends such as Michael Schumacher on the list of Grand Prix winners for Ferrari, and he is now calling for his livery to look the same as the German’s.
Hamilton claimed his first Ferrari win at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The win was 30 years on from Schumacher’s victory for the Maranello outfit at the same circuit.
Hamilton was honoured to emulate Schumacher and win a race for Ferrari. It has been a childhood dream of his to claim victory in red, although, to his displeasure, his SF-26 is not red enough.

Hamilton was almost immediately likened to Schumacher when he joined Ferrari. In fact, Hamilton’s camp were told he could be the next Schumacher at the Maranello outfit.
He did not live up to that hype in 2025, but he has certainly turned a corner this season. He now sits 41 points behind Kimi Antonelli in the standings following the Mercedes driver’s retirement in Barcelona.

30 years on from Schumacher’s win in Barcelona, Hamilton was delighted to follow in the fellow seven-time champion’s footsteps. Speaking in the post-race press conference, he expressed how he wants his cockpit to be painted red, just like Schumacher’s cars.
He said after clinching the win in Barcelona: “I think this is the first step of our story. And I just learned just now that it was 30, just been reminded that it was 30 years ago that Michael won.
“I would have been at home on my couch watching that race, probably like many of you, and with a plate on my lap, eating like a sandwich, or maybe chicken noodle soup or something like that.
What is the BIGGEST reason for Lewis Hamilton’s turnaround at Ferrari this year?
“On a Sunday, I was 12, if I wasn’t racing. And, yeah, just looking at that red car and thinking, ‘I wonder what it’s like sitting in that red cockpit?’ My cockpit happens to be white, which I’ve not been too happy about. I wanted to be red like Michael’s. I’ll get it back red at some stage.
“But, yeah, what it would be like to sit in that red car, which I got to experience last year, but then be in that red suit, standing in first place in front of that amazing crew who was singing the national anthem.
“And I think the sound was off today because they were like out of sync with the song, but it was really amazing to witness and to see the joy in their eyes and to feel it with them. I nearly passed out after I hugged them. My heart was exploding with joy.”
