The news everybody in the world of Formula 1 has been waiting for looks set to be announced on Tuesday.

Ever since Adrian Newey confirmed that he would be leaving Red Bull there have been whispers in the paddock about where he might end up.

Ferrari opted against hiring Newey and denying him working alongside Lewis Hamilton for the first time.

The likes of McLaren, Williams and Alpine were all linked with Newey but it appears as though he’s about to be announced by Aston Martin.

A report from Planet F1 suggests that executive chairman Lawrence Stroll had his sights set on raiding Red Bull for even more of their key personnel.

Aston Martin have struggled this year and look stuck in 5th in the Constructors’ Championship with the top four teams miles ahead of them and the rest of the midfield right on their tails.

Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have been fighting for minor points all year and will be hoping that the team Stroll Sr. is building around them can put them into contention in 2026 when the regulations change.

Lawrence Stroll wanted Pierre Wache and Enrico Balbo to follow Newey to Silverstone from Red Bull’s base in Milton Keynes.

Team principal Christian Horner has recognised that his team is being torn apart by the rest of the grid and moved to prevent any more of his closest allies from departing.

Lawrence Stroll was desperate to hire Pierre Wache and Enrico Balbo for Aston Martin

The report from Planet F1 explains that Wache and Balbo both turned down approaches from Aston Martin.

Stroll ‘personally’ was involved in talks with both senior backroom staff and was willing to make some serious offers to both ‘kingpins’.

Wache and Balbo were both offered shares in the Aston Martin team to join Newey in making the switch from Red Bull.

It’s a significant proposal but neither staff member decided it was the right choice to join the team Stroll has created at Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art new factory.

Pierre Wache has identified Red Bull issues that need fixing

Red Bull are still leading both championships with eight race weekends to go but their advantage has been slashed over the past few months.

McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes are all capable of beating Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez as they showed in Monza.

Wache has already said it’s going to be very difficult to help Perez this year but Verstappen now also has significant concerns with the RB20.

Three potential reasons for Red Bull’s problems have been identified by Wache but he and the team will know that time is against them to fix them before it’s too late.

Aston Martin have brought in the likes of Enrico Cardile, Andy Cowell and Dan Fallows in recent years and Newey is the cherry on top of the cake.

Their focus will be on building the best car possible for 2026 when the rules change as even with Newey’s influence from the beginning of next year, they look too far away to challenge the top teams next season.
