Aston Martin are heading into their very first campaign as a works Formula 1 team in 2026, and Lawrence Stroll has reaffirmed the expectations that he has for his racing outfit ahead of the new season.

The Silverstone-based constructor have added a number of key personnel in their quest to become one of the leading teams on the grid.

Their most notable signing has been that of Adrian Newey, the design genius who was an integral part of Red Bull’s success in recent years.

Aston Martin have also brought on Enrico Cardile from Ferrari, who will lead their charge at race weekends in the role of Chief Technical Officer.

However, one of the biggest unknowns of their 2026 F1 car involves Aston Martin’s new engine deal with Honda, which will see the Japanese manufacturer develop power units for Aston Martin’s F1 cars for the foreseeable future.

Lawrence Stroll reaffirms Aston Martin’s ‘mission’ of winning an F1 world championship in 2026

After taking over the Force India constructor in 2018, Stroll rebranded the team to Aston Martin following a separate deal that saw him acquire a stake in the British luxury car manufacturing giants.

Ever since then, the Canadian billionaire has had his heart set on seeing his son, Lance Stroll, become an F1 world champion by equipping him with all the right tools and people around him.

Speaking in a YouTube video on Aston Martin’s official channel, Stroll expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, saying, “The whole team’s forming into place and we’re looking forward to next year, to a huge rules and regulation change.

“Another huge step, we have Honda being our power unit partner, being a works team for the first time in our life is a whole different experience.

“Designing an engine that’s mated together with a power unit as one rather than being a customer engine and just being delivered an engine.

“So, a tremendous amount of excitement is happening. I’m relentless. I don’t give up until the mission is completed. In this case, the mission is being world champions.”

Honda are currently optimistic in regards to their 2026 F1 engine

Fernando Alonso is also on the hunt for his elusive third world title in the sport. After securing two in the first five seasons of his full-time driving career in F1, the Spaniard has endured a frustrating 17-year stint without adding another championship to his name.

However, Honda’s early benchmarks suggest they aren’t doing too badly at this moment in time, something that will be sure to ignite Alonso’s ultra-competitive determination.

Aston Martin have also enjoyed moving into their new state-of-the-art factory located in Silverstone in recent years, which has only boosted their prospects of settling in with the top teams on the grid in the future.

Paired with the expertise of Newey, who has wowed everybody, including Alonso, teams up and down the grid are a bit wary of being leapfrogged by the anticipation of Aston Martin’s success.

It remains to be seen how much of the speculation is real, but there’s no doubt that they will be a more improved racing squad once the cars hit the track for the Australian Grand Prix next March.
