Lando Norris has etched his name into the Formula 1 history books as he becomes the 35th world champion in 2025.
The McLaren star sealed the deal at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix as he finished third on the road. Max Verstappen won the race from Oscar Piastri, but it was not enough as Norris won by just two points.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Lando Norris | 423 |
| 2 | Max Verstappen | 421 |
| 3 | Oscar Piastri | 410 |
He becomes the first McLaren champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2008 and the 11th British champion in F1 history. Norris does not think he will match Hamilton or Michael Schumacher’s record, but he has put his name among the elite in the sport.
Hamilton told Norris not to ‘change anything’ ahead of the title decider in Abu Dhabi. The seven-time champion was delighted to see his fellow countryman lift the championship trophy.

Lando Norris reveals the advice Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel have been giving him in 2025
Abu Dhabi was not the only time that Hamilton offered advice to Norris, as the McLaren driver later revealed on the official F1 YouTube channel.
The 25-year-old changed his approach in the second half of the season to try and win the title, including turning the delta off his steering wheel in qualifying and conducting fewer media duties. He also sought help from sporting champions, including Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and MotoGP’s Casey Stoner.
“I honestly only thought about it when you guys bring it up, when you talk about it, when you question me about it,” said Norris, talking about his championship.

“Until then, and I’ve meant it every time I said it, one weekend at a time, treat every weekend as the same. Try and almost make it a boring process, but enjoy it as much as I can. Not get any more excited because: ‘Oh, I’m closer. I’m one step closer’. Just not try and do any of that.
“But again, I’ve had some great words and great text messages and conversations with some incredible people, people that have won world championships in different sports.
“Lewis and others, Seb, a lot of people know I speak to Seb about things. A lot of these people, Stoner, who when I needed it most kind of sent me that little text message and said: ‘Think of this, believe in yourself, do this, do that’, and just help me along.”

Lando Norris won the 2025 title in Abu Dhabi, but it could have gone horribly wrong
Norris displayed excellent racecraft during the Abu Dhabi GP after his pit stop. Stopping onto the hard tyre, he navigated through the traffic with some brilliant moves to climb back into third.
But things could have turned out completely differently after he attempted an overtake on Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver was seen weaving across the main straight as Norris came on the inside, with the McLaren driver being forced off the track.
McLaren were furious with Tsunoda over the radio, with his antics resulting in a five-second time penalty. However, fans believed Norris should have gotten a penalty for overtaking the Red Bull off the track.
No action was taken on the McLaren star, but the incident could have easily spoiled his title chances. Laurent Mekies broke his promise to Norris and the team in that his driver would race cleanly in Abu Dhabi – Tsunoda did not live up to it.
