Lando Norris has just etched his name into the Formula 1 history books by claiming his maiden title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Briton seized a massive opportunity to win the drivers’ championship in 2025, edging Max Verstappen out by just two points.
Norris can now relax, safe in the knowledge that he has achieved exactly what he has dedicated his whole life to achieving.
McLaren have their first new champion since 2008, and are well-positioned to continue to challenge heading into the 2026 F1 regulations.
Norris’ first champagne pop as a world champion! The first of many?
Although Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, there was little that he could do to prevent McLaren from confirming a title double.
Verstappen fans think Norris deserved a penalty for an overtake he made on Yuki Tsunoda, but a penalty wouldn’t have done much to sway the tide of things.

Lewis Hamilton told Lando Norris not to ‘change anything’ before winning the 2025 F1 title
Norris was warned about a disgruntled Piastri and the potential for him to get in his way at the last race of the season, despite being teammates.
But they weren’t really close to each other at all at any stage of the race. Their differing strategies meant that there were always a few seconds between them.
Lewis Hamilton has won a few titles in his time and shared exactly what advice he gave Norris before the start of the weekend as he chased his first Formula 1 crown.
Was this the best drive of Lando Norris’ career so far? 👏
Despite the immense pressure, Norris got the job down in Abu Dhabi to win his first ever Drivers' Championship
“I was thinking of not saying too much other than I’m really, really happy for him,” he said on Sky Sports F1. “Winning your first world championship is really special.
“The UK continues to pump out good drivers, and I know what the feeling is also when you’re coming into this race and fighting for your first championship, is nerve-racking. I’m just really proud of him.
“I just told him to, before the weekend, what he has been doing works, so don’t change anything. I guess that’s what he did.”

Why Lando Norris will be a lot more relaxed during the 2026 F1 season
Piastri was lauded for a ‘nice touch’ towards Norris by congratulating his family immediately after his title win in Abu Dhabi.
The Aussie is now the one who has the biggest point to prove, which means that he’ll have a little more pressure on his shoulders in 2026.
Norris, who will want to defend his title, can rest assured, knowing that if he doesn’t get the chance to win a title again, he took the only real chance he had.
Nobody quite knows what the running order will be next year, but one would expect that McLaren will be near the top, given their form over the last few seasons.
