McLaren achieved another one-two finish during an increasingly dominant 2025 Formula 1 season.
Going into the Belgian Grand Prix, all eyes were on Lando Norris at the front of the grid.
Oscar Piastri had taken pole position for the Sprint Race, but both McLaren drivers were beaten during Saturday’s race by Max Verstappen.
An incredibly wet day at Spa saw the start of the race delayed by more than an hour, and Norris complaining about his side of the grid being far less dry than Piastri’s.
| RANK | DRIVER | TEAM | POINTS |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 25 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 18 |
| 3 | Charles Lelcerc | Ferrari | 15 |
| 4 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 12 |
| 5 | George Russell | Mercedes | 10 |
| 6 | Alex Albon | Williams | 8 |
| 7 | Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari | 6 |
| 8 | Liam Lawson | Racing Bulls | 4 |
| 9 | Gabriel Bortoleto | Sauber | 2 |
| 10 | Pierre Gasly | Alpine | 1 |
However, a rolling start wasn’t enough to help the British driver negate Piastri’s slipstream, and by the end of the first run down to turn five, the drivers’ championship leader was at the head of the race.
Norris dealt a psychological blow to Piastri with his pole position, according to Damon Hill, but the championship leader will be leaving Spa far happier than his rival.
The biggest talking point in the race was Norris pitting a lap later than Piastri and going onto the hard compound rather than the medium tyres.
The longer the race went on, the more inspired a choice it looked from Norris, but a few costly errors meant he ran out of laps before being able to ever put Piastri under serious pressure.

Lando Norris lauds Oscar Piastri’s ‘great job’ after the Belgian Grand Prix
In his official post-race interview with Jolyon Palmer, Norris was asked about the race and said: “I mean, Oscar just did a good job, nothing more to say.
“He committed a bit more through Eau Rouge, and he had the slipstream and got the run, yeah, so nothing to complain about.
“He did a better job in the beginning, and that was it, nothing more I could do after that point.
“So, I would love to be up at the top, but Oscar deserved it today.”
Norris was then asked about his hard tyre change and a couple of mistakes he made at Pouhon and La Source, and he continued: “It’s shoulda, woulda, coulda!
“Oscar deserved it, I’m sure he made a couple of mistakes, so if he drove a perfect race, then I couldn’t have won today, so I’ll review my things.
“But I’m so happy for the team, another one-two, our first one-two here for many, many years, so nice to bring that back to the team, and then a well-deserved result for them and Oscar too.”

Karun Chandhok makes McLaren F1 championship prediction at the Belgian Grand Prix
At the conclusion of the Belgian Grand Prix, Piastri had increased his lead in the championship to 16 points.
Karun Chandhok has predicted the championship to go down to the wire, but Piastri’s victory makes that slightly less likely with 11 Grand Prix weekends remaining.
One of the biggest talking points regarding Norris this season has been whether he has the mental strength to win a title against an almost unflappable Piastri.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | 241 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | 232 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | 173 |
| 4 | George Russell | 147 |
| 5 | Charles Leclerc | 124 |
| 6 | Lewis Hamilton | 103 |
| 7 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | 63 |
| 8 | Alexander Albon | 46 |
| 9 | Nico Hulkenberg | 37 |
| 10 | Esteban Ocon | 27 |
Nico Rosberg believes Norris is finally taking his advice in that regard, and his very positive post-race message to Piastri suggests he’s not getting too down when results go against him.
McLaren have such a large advantage over their rivals that they should be able to let Piastri and Norris go head-to-head at every race between now and Abu Dhabi.
It’s up to Norris to once again close the gap to Piastri to make sure the championship goes down to the wire.
