McLaren driver Lando Norris and Red Bull Racing junior driver Arvid Lindblad have been aware of each other for some time.
As a youngster, Arvid Lindblad made the confident prediction that he would see Lando Norris in a few years on the Formula 1 grid.
The British Grand Prix saw the pair share a track for the first time, after Red Bull put their faith in the 17-year-old during FP1.
Red Bull needed special dispensation for Lindblad to earn a superlicense, but he’s had the required points for some time.
| RANK | DRIVER | TEAM | POINTS |
| 1 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 25 |
| 2 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 18 |
| 3 | Nico Hulkenberg | Sauber | 15 |
| 4 | Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari | 12 |
| 5 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 10 |
| 6 | Pierre Gasly | Alpine | 8 |
| 7 | Lance Stroll | Aston Martin | 6 |
| 8 | Alex Albon | Williams | 4 |
| 9 | Fernando Alonso | Aston Martin | 2 |
| 10 | George Russell | Mercedes | 1 |
The teenager is challenging for the Formula 2 title after winning the Formula Regional Oceania championship earlier in the year.
Lewis Hamilton was fastest in that session, with Norris finishing second in his McLaren, just 0.023 seconds behind the seven-time world champion.
Lindblad finished the session 14th, almost exactly one second behind Norris, but the eventual winner of the British Grand Prix has very high hopes for the next Red Bull junior waiting for a full-time Formula 1 opportunity.

Lando Norris predicts Arvid Lindblad will be racing in Formula 1 ‘in a few years’ time’
Norris was speaking to Motorsport during the Silverstone weekend, and Lindblad’s opening interaction with him several years ago was brought up.
He explained: “I still remember that day. It was when I launched my own kart, and I remember him saying that to me.
“That made me feel old for the first time in my life… and it’s not nice!”
When asked about Lindblad’s debut, Norris continued: “It was great to see.
“It’s always nice to see new talent come through and do well. He’s performed at a high level in the series he’s competed in before, and Formula 2 is always tricky.
“I’m sure he’ll keep fighting… and in a few years’ time, he’ll probably be racing in Formula 1.”

When could Arvid Lindblad make his full Formula 1 debut?
There’s plenty of uncertainty surrounding the futures of all four Formula 1 drivers in the Red Bull camp this season.
Max Verstappen is considering a move to Mercedes, and that would leave team principal Christian Horner in an awful position.
There are very few drivers on the grid who could even come close to replacing the four-time world champion, and asking one of Red Bull’s juniors to do so would be extremely unfair.
There is a strong chance that Yuki Tsunoda will be dropped by Red Bull at the end of the season.
| TEAM | DRIVER 1 | DRIVER 2 |
| Alpine | Pierre Gasly | Franco Colapinto |
| Aston Martin | Fernando Alonso | Lance Stroll |
| Audi | Gabriel Bortoleto | Nico Hulkenberg |
| Cadillac | Valtteri Bottas | Sergio Perez |
| Ferrari | Charles Leclerc | Lewis Hamilton |
| Haas | Esteban Ocon | Oliver Bearman |
| McLaren | Lando Norris | Oscar Piastri |
| Mercedes | George Russell | Kimi Antonelli |
| Racing Bulls | Liam Lawson | Arvid Lindblad |
| Red Bull Racing | Max Verstappen | Isack Hadjar |
| Williams | Alex Albon | Carlos Sainz |
After waiting for four years for his chance to race for the senior team, he’s failed to tame an extremely difficult car to drive.
Liam Lawson could be replaced by Lindblad before the end of the campaign, although an improved performance at the Austrian Grand Prix, when he achieved his best-ever finish in Formula 1, will boost his chances of staying on the grid with Racing Bulls.
Isack Hadjar also doesn’t have a contract for 2026, but he may be waiting to see which Red Bull-backed team he’ll be driving for next year.
