Lando Norris didn’t have the most glowing review of the new regulations after his P2 finish at the Miami Grand Prix.
Norris fought tooth-and-nail with Kimi Antonelli for much of the race, only to have to settle for P2 as Antonelli just had the pace over the McLaren ace.
This marks Lando Norris’ best finish this season so far, and his first podium of 2026. But from his instant reaction after the race, it was clear that the world champion wasn’t happy.
McLaren record a double podium behind Kimi Antonelli! When will their first win of 2026 come?
Norris has long been critical of the new regulations and how they hamper his instincts as a driver. So, coming into a weekend where new regulation changes were implemented, he was going to be asked about his experience.
But the reigning world champion has still not given a surefire answer about his thoughts, praising some of the regulation changes while still saying things could be better.

Lando Norris says new regulations still need some work after Miami Grand Prix
Speaking right after finishing P2 in the Miami Grand Prix, Lando Norris was asked about his thoughts on the recent regulation changes and how they may have improved the racing on the day.
Norris praised the regulation changes and the racing, but admitted that there were still some glaring issues that needed to be addressed.
“So-so. It was still good. I still enjoyed the racing, honestly. Things have improved. Some things are the same. But today was about who can make the least mistakes… It looked good.
“If you guys enjoyed it, then I’m happy. It was tough. You have to be tactical in how you’re using the battery. You can easily get caught up in the wrong running of things… Progress.”
Norris’ was recently blocked from criticising the new regulations by McLaren, so perhaps he was being as diplomatic as possible to avoid any punitive damage.
Norris was clearly not in the best mood after the race. Although that might have more to do with the instructions he got from his race engineer, Will Joseph.

Lando Norris blasts race engineer Will Joseph’s pit-stop strategy after missing out on Miami GP win
Elsewhere in his post-race interview, Norris seemingly criticised the approach his race engineer, Will Joseph, took to their pit strategy, being reactive to Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes rather than taking the first step.
“A mixed bag, really. We just got undercut. No excuses other than that. We should have boxed first. Kimi did a good job. Hats off to Merc and Kimi. They had a good race.
“Easy to make mistakes out there with the braking zones and these cars. He didn’t make anything big enough for me to capitalise on out there.
“As a team, we have to be happy. I’m gutted to miss out on the win here in Miami. It was possible today. Take it on the chin. Still a positive weekend.”
During the race, Joseph reportedly told Norris, “Do what the car in front of you does,” although his comments were aimed at the possibility of rain.
However, it was Joseph’s call to pit right after Antonelli rather than before him. And despite McLaren pitting Norris just a lap later, it still made all the difference.
