Lando Norris admits he will ‘struggle’ to copy iconic Sebastian Vettel trait if he wins his first F1 title this season

Lando Norris is in the midst of competing for his first Formula 1 title in 2025, and his main opposition is teammate Oscar Piastri.

To be frank, there’s no one else who can get close to them currently. Both Red Bull and Max Verstappen are nowhere, and the rest of the Formula 1 pack haven’t looked like contenders at all.

Norris just claimed his second win in the last four races after a strong Austrian Grand Prix showing, and he’s starting to put some pressure on Piastri.

It’s pretty clear by now that McLaren have by far the best car on the grid for all conditions, and are strong particularly when it is hot and the other teams struggle to find a good car balance.

Norris overcame a key weakness to beat Piastri, with Martin Brundle recognising that he kept level-headed until the end of the race, despite a tense battle at one stage.

However, Norris is still ‘missing’ consistency in his Piastri battle and would love to win the upcoming British Grand Prix to back up his recent form at his home race.

Lando Norris will ‘struggle’ to cry like Sebastian Vettel if he wins his first F1 title in 2025

Damon Hill says Norris should be seriously ‘worried’ about the prospect of failing to win his first drivers’ championship in 2025.

The 1996 Formula 1 champion doesn’t believe that the Briton can afford to lose to his teammate, and suggests that defeat should not be an option.

But there are still 13 more races to go before a definite winner is crowned, and it looks like the battle could go all the way.

Speaking to Tom Clarkson on the F1 Nation podcast, the 25-year-old admitted that he would struggle to copy an iconic Sebastian Vettel move (at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix) if he does claim the title this year.

“It certainly makes me smile more [the British fans], but I struggle to cry,” he said. “I think if I win the championship, I’m going to like rub my eyes on the in-lap to make it look like I’ve been crying.

“It’s more just a joy and happiness. Realising moments like that. Memories and things I can look back on and enjoy and smile about.”

Why Lando Norris called Oscar Piastri ‘tough’ after the Austrian Grand Prix

Formula 1 heads on a three-week break after the upcoming race at Silverstone, handing drivers and teams an opportunity to reflect on the last few events.

Immediately after his win in Austria, Norris called Piastri so ‘tough’ after they battled cleanly for top honours.

It’s a positive sign for McLaren after they collided spectacularly in Canada, and Norris immediately took the full blame.

They’ll be hoping to maintain peace and harmony as long as possible before, inevitably, the pressures of a title fight get to them.

F1 fans said Norris finally ‘sounds like a champ’ after being a lot more confident upon arrival in Spielberg, and that should only improve in Northamptonshire this weekend after his third win of the season.
