Red Bull chief Helmut Marko has suggested he would like to partner Max Verstappen with Lando Norris one day.

That’s according to journalist Christian Menath speaking on the F1 Nation Podcast.

Zandvoort delivered one of the most exciting races of the season on Sunday but ultimately ended with a predictable result.

Max Verstappen had some catching up to do at the start of the race after pitting too late for intermediate tyres following a downpour during the opening lap of the race.

He hunted down his teammate Sergio Perez with ease and held onto the lead while chaos ensued around him.

A mistake from Perez coming into the pit lane cost him a place on the podium with Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly sharing the rostrum with the Dutchman.

Perez’s future isn’t immediately in danger, but conversations will start about his replacement sooner rather than later.

Norris is part of one of the most exciting young partnerships in F1 right now.

McLaren are certainly going in the right direction, but it would be difficult for any driver to turn down an approach from Red Bull given their current dominance.

Marko could partner Norris with Verstappen

Speaking on the F1 Nation Podcast, Menath said: “I had an interview with Helmut Marko during the summer break and I asked him about a ‘superteam’ if they need another superstar next to Max Verstappen, and he was open to it.

“I was surprised, actually he mentioned Lando Norris.

“I asked, would you put someone like Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton next to Max and he said, ‘Lewis, not’, but Lando Norris I can imagine’.”

Verstappen and Norris are very close friends and Marko could decide they would complement each other very well at Red Bull.

Norris has previously messaged his Dutch counterpart after sharing the podium with him this season.

The young Brit could be a fantastic challenger to Verstappen as he’s consistently got the most out of each car he’s driven.

The Red Bull appears to be perfectly suited to Verstappen’s driving style but Norris would back himself to challenge him if given the opportunity.
