Jonathan Wheatley, among other incoming figures into Audi, did not appreciate the mindset within the team.
Wheatley left Audi recently amid interest from Aston Martin, ending his tenure with the team after less than two years with them.
There were reports that Wheatley clashed often with Mattia Binotto, the COO and CTO of Audi during their time working together.
Audi confirm Jonathan Wheatley’s exit – Who should take over as their team principal?
During a heated disagreement at the Australian Grand Prix, officials realised Wheatley and Binotto couldn’t work together at Audi much longer.
However, it appears Jonathan Wheatley’s issues with Audi go far beyond his disagreements with Mattia Binotto.

Audi reportedly faced a ‘mentality problem’ when Jonathan Wheatley joined the team
Speaking with UOL Esporte, F1 reporter Julianne Cerasoli revealed that she had heard about some problems within Audi.
While she didn’t mention any names, Cerasoli revealed that high-ranking team members who joined from more successful teams did not appreciate the lackadaisical approach by staff members at Audi.
“There’s an issue I always hear a lot about in Formula 1, and I even heard it within Audi recently. Those who come from big teams to smaller teams have a problem with their mentality.
“So, the mentality of, ‘Oh, this is good enough this way,’ is unacceptable to them. No, it’s not good enough this way. They’re always asking, ‘How can we improve this process?’”
Even though Jonathan Wheatley wasn’t mentioned explicitly, it’s likely that he was one of the figures who was disappointed with the mentality at Audi, given that he joined them after a successful stint with Red Bull.

Jonathan Wheatley’s decision to leave Audi could pay off massively
While Wheatley was expected to take charge at Aston Martin when his exit from Audi was first announced, his plans could change.
Gianpiero Lambiase’s unexpected exit from Red Bull has changed the dynamic within the team, and Red Bull will be desperate to replace him with a high-calibre name.
Perhaps this could open the door for Wheatley to return to Red Bull, as he has a great deal of experience and has worked with the team in recent years.
Wheatley could also get the high-ranking role he left Red Bull in pursuit of, as pressure continues to mount on Laurent Mekies during this turbulent period.
