Jolyon Palmer has seen something he has never seen before from Kimi Antonelli that he thinks will ‘come back to bite’.

Antonelli, 19, has enjoyed a stellar rise to the top of the sport, as he currently leads the 2026 Formula 1 world championship standings.

Following Antonelli’s Canadian Grand Prix victory, the teenage sensation now has a 43-point lead over teammate George Russell.

As a result, Antonelli is now the favourite to clinch a historic title, as he will be the youngest driver to ever win an F1 world championship.

Jolyon Palmer has seen something very rare from Kimi Antonelli that will ‘come back to bite’

Speaking recently on the BBC’s Chequered Flag podcast, ex-F1 driver Palmer claimed that the Italian’s aggressiveness could ‘come back to bite’.

Palmer, who drove for Renault during his F1 career, stated that he was surprised by Antonelli’s ‘super aggressive’ driving style during the Canadian Grand Prix Sprint.

He added that although he was laying down the markers, Antonelli would have to be careful, especially around Monaco.

Palmer said: “He’s got minerals, hasn’t he? I loved it in Canada. The Sprint- I’ve never seen anyone push so hard for a Sprint win. Probably in the whole time we’ve had the Sprint format, you’ve not seen risks being taken for the win that Antonelli took.

“He bounced over the grass two/three times over a single race, three times in fact, twice with Russell and once with Norris. You’re thinking this is for one point over your teammate. He was laying down some markers; he didn’t get it done, but I love the enthusiasm.

“The interesting point for me with Kimi is that we’ve seen him being stunningly fast, super aggressive, loved the attitude, loved the gung-ho, take it to George. But at some point, that will come back to bite.

“I feel like Monaco is the sort of track where that could happen, as you mentioned earlier on, you always have a crash at Monaco at some point.”

George Russell reveals outcome of Mercedes meeting after Canadian GP Sprint incident

After Antonelli and Russell’s incident at the Canadian Grand Prix Sprint, a meeting was held to clear the air.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, Russell stated that Mercedes have to trust the drivers.

As per Sky Sports, Russell said: “It was left that we have to be trusted. This is what we do. We’re drivers. We push ourselves to the limit every single lap. When we race with one another, you push each other to the limits as well.

“Of course, when you’re sat on the sidelines, at the pit wall or even Toto [Wolff], of course, it’s so stressful and tense because you can’t control what is about to happen and you want to be able to control it.

“Ultimately, we have to be trusted, and we are trusted, and that’s how it’s been left, so we’ll continue fighting hard. We know the boundaries of one another, and that was good.”
