John Elkann spoke recently at a Ferrari shareholders meeting about not being happy with how the F1 team performed in comparison to their other project.

Last week, it was reported that Andrea Stella was set to join Ferrari in the coming years, as Gianpiero Lambiase joins McLaren as a long-term replacement.

However, McLaren insiders quickly shut Stella’s exit rumours down, suggesting that he would work alongside Lambiase while staying in his role as team principal.

Many believe Stella can help Ferrari in a way Fred Vasseur can’t, especially in the aftermath of the Scuderia’s struggles last season.

And it appears Fred Vasseur is under the microscope at Ferrari right now, especially going off of Ferrari president John Elkann’s comments.

John Elkann’s comments about Ferrari’s expectations reveals F1 team is underdelivering

During a Ferrari shareholders meeting, President John Elkann spoke about the ambitions Ferrari have as a team, and how their previous year went.

While he admitted their Formula 1 team didn’t perform at the best level, he praised Ferrari’s endurance and GT racing teams for their strong outings last year, suggesting some frustration with Fred Vasseur.

“At Ferrari, we know that racing also means learning and progressing. After a season that fell short of our ambitions, in 2026, we’ve started a new championship with new regulations.

“We’re approaching it with unity and determination, focused on the work needed to come back stronger than before.

“Our sporting soul continues to grow: 2025 was a memorable season in endurance racing. November 8th was a moment of pure joy for all of us and for fans around the world.

“Fifty years after our last overall endurance world title, Ferrari has clinched both the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ titles in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

“This result is the fruit of talent and teamwork, crowning a season that also saw the 499P secure its third consecutive victory at Le Mans, another extraordinary milestone in our history.”

Ferrari reportedly impressed with Andrea Stella at McLaren

According to Daniel Moxon, Ferrari are definitely interested in Stella, regardless of the veracity of reports of him signing an agreement. In fact, Ferrari are very impressed with the work Stella has done with McLaren.

“There have been some claims that Stella is set to head back to his old team, Ferrari and that Lambiase may have been signed as his eventual successor as team principal. Time will tell whether this turns out to be true, though McLaren insists right now that they do not expect to lose Stella.

“There certainly is interest from Ferrari, though, from what I understand, who hope to be able to lure their former engineer back to Maranello more than a decade after losing him.

“The Scuderia’s top brass have been very impressed by how Stella has overhauled McLaren’s technical department and guided them from an outfit floundering in the midfield to a back-to-back constructors’ championship-winning force.”

John Elkann reportedly wants Stella at Ferrari as a replacement for Fred Vasseur, seeing his work at McLaren over the last few years.

However, there are others who believe Fred Vasseur should be allowed to do his job. While Vasseur is set to stay in his role this season.
