Jamie Chadwick thinks Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull career ‘must be’ over after ‘broken’ relationship comment

Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda once again missed out on scoring points at the Mexico City Grand Prix, finishing in a frustrating 11th place.

Yuki Tsunoda missed out on the top 10 shootout in qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix, but his deficit to Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen was the smallest it’s been since Hungary.

However, another strong start from Tsunoda meant he spent the opening stint of the race ahead of Verstappen’s drivers’ championship rival, Oscar Piastri.

Piastri eventually made his way past the Japanese driver, but Red Bull continued to delay Tsunoda’s only pit stop after starting on the medium compound.

Tsunoda’s only stop was a disaster, losing him at least 10 seconds and almost certainly costing him a top 10 finish.

The weekend didn’t start brilliantly for the 25-year-old, with Arvid Lindblad setting a faster time than Tsunoda in FP1 while driving Verstappen’s car.

Jamie Chadwick suggested Tsunoda will never be capable of winning a championship, and after looking dejected in the media pen after the race, she explained why she thinks his time at Red Bull ‘must be’ coming to an end this season.

Yuki Tsunoda’s relationship with Red Bull ‘broken’ as Jamie Chadwick predicts exit

Tsunoda was asked in his post-race interview whether he thinks Red Bull gave him ‘all the tools’ needed to show what he can do in Mexico with his future on the line, and said: “I maximised it until today, and what I can control.

“Like I said, today’s race was, I think, one of the best paces I had, especially the first stint.

“So, yeah, that’s positive, and let’s see.”

F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve was asked on Sky Sports F1 (26/10 11:03 pm) if he thought Tsunoda knew that the ‘writing’s on the wall’ for his Red Bull seat, and he responded: “It didn’t sound like he was in a very happy place.

“He kept looking for excuses, basically, that he was fantastic at what he could control.

“Obviously, since he’s been in that car, he hasn’t.”

Chadwick was asked if she thinks it’s over for Tsunoda, and she continued: “I think it must be, to be honest.

“And also, the way he’s talking there in the sense that he’s kind of alluding to there being issues with the team or with the car, if that was him two or three races into his career with Red Bull, he’d do everything he can to keep them happy and protect them.

“Now, you can tell that the relationship’s already sort of broken, he’s frustrated, it seems pretty done to me.”

Yuki Tsunoda has until the end of the season to save his Red Bull seat

Helmut Marko suggested Tsunoda’s future would be decided after Mexico, but that decision has now been delayed.

With Verstappen still in championship contention, Red Bull don’t want to distract from their efforts to help the four-time champion win a historic fifth title.

It’s widely believed that Isack Hadjar will be promoted from Racing Bulls at the end of the season.

Since his podium at Zandvoort, Hadjar hasn’t finished higher than 10th, but has still impressed senior staff at Red Bull.

It’s also been suggested that Lindblad will be a Racing Bulls driver in 2026, meaning Tsunoda is in a head-to-head battle with Liam Lawson for the final Red Bull-backed seat.

Lawson suffered his fifth retirement of the season in Mexico, but the fact that Tsunoda couldn’t overtake him in the championship, even if factors outside of his control worked against him, hasn’t helped his chances.
