Jacques Villeneuve shares who the more consistent driver is – Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton

Jacques Villeneuve has been making a comparison between current world champion Max Verstappen and rival Lewis Hamilton.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the 1997 F1 champion was reflecting after a hectic Austrian Grand Prix.

Unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen added another win to his rapidly growing tally.

After negotiating the first lap, Verstappen drove off into the distance as the rest of the grid battled with each other and the track limits.

Lewis Hamilton certainly struggled with the latter as his Mercedes became harder and harder to drive.

As he witnessed Verstappen on the top step of the podium once again, the seven-time world champion had to settle for an eighth-place finish.

Villeneuve has now been comparing Hamilton and Verstappen and thinks the Dutchman might have the edge of his rival.

Right now, no one can get close to the 25-year-old.

However, he still has a long way to go before he matches Hamilton’s level of dominance at his peak.

Villeneuve picks Verstappen over Hamilton for consistency

Asked about the British driver, Villeneuve said: “He goes very up and down in performance, it depends on the weekends. But he’s always been like that, every season, even when he was winning. He’s never had a perfect year like Verstappen.

“He [Verstappen] always has an extraordinary energy, he never gives up. And that makes a difference.

“Verstappen has always been like that, for years. He’s at his best for the whole season. It’s amazing how he does it, maybe only [Fernando] Alonso was comparable.

“If you look at most of the other drivers they all have ups and downs, often with quite a bit of difference between them. Not him.

“I really don’t know where he gets all that energy from. When he is like that, which is practically all the time, he is unbeatable.”

It’s no surprise that in a debate between Verstappen and Hamilton, Villeneuve has also mentioned Fernando Alonso.

Despite being 41 years old, he’s still fighting at the front of the grid in his Aston Martin.

The title is already a foregone conclusion unless something absolutely extraordinary happens.

Hamilton will hope Mercedes can get their act together ahead of next season so he can compete for wins once again.
