How Daniel Ricciardo’s representatives feel about his RB future amid Red Bull uncertainty

The Formula 1 world is closely monitoring Red Bull driver Sergio Perez and every lap he completes in Hungary and Belgium before the summer break will be meticulously studied and analysed.

However, the Mexican driver isn’t the only racer in the Red Bull quartet currently being scrutinised.

Daniel Ricciardo is another driver who hasn’t reached his full potential during the 2024 season.

The Australian has been outperformed by teammate Yuki Tsunoda for much of the campaign and it’s no wonder that Tsunoda is already signed up for 2025 and Ricciardo isn’t.

Journalist Nate Saunders was speaking on the Unlapped Podcast and shared what Daniel Ricciardo’s representatives have told him about the 35-year-old’s future.

There have been suggestions that Ricciardo’s future at RB has already been decided despite still having 12 race weekends left this season.

With Liam Lawson set to test both this year’s Red Bull and a V-CARB car before the next race, senior management will have all the data they need to decide on his future.

It then comes down to whether they feel it’s more important to replace Perez or Ricciardo, or if Lawson might not quite be ready to step into either seat.

However, Ricciardo’s representatives are confident that if there’s going to be any movement in the Red Bull, it won’t involve the Australian.

What Daniel Ricciardo’s representatives are saying about his Formula 1 future

Talking about the 35-year-old’s future, Saunders said: “I was speaking to some guys close to [Daniel] Ricciardo, I know the guys that represent Ricciardo really well.

“They’re still pretty confident about things and I think that the magnitude of the [Sergio] Perez situation and the importance of that for Red Bull, my prediction will be, will keep Ricciardo safe.

“Why replace Ricciardo when let’s face it, AlphaTauri [Visa Cash App RB] they’re not really scoring huge amounts of points at the moment?

“Red Bull cannot afford to get that wrong. I think you can afford to leave Ricciardo in that seat and see where he goes.

“And they can also point to the fact, you talk to people at V-CARB and they will say that the marketing power of Ricciardo is still pretty good, they still get a fair amount for that for what that team is.”

Daniel Ricciardo still under pressure even if Liam Lawson replaces Sergio Perez

Liam Lawson is expected to be Sergio Perez’s most likely replacement should the Mexican fail to retain his seat.

Lawson has already impressed Red Bull’s management and there’s a reason why they’re desperate not to lose him at the end of the year.

However, Ricciardo’s problem is that Red Bull have a wealth of talent coming through beneath Lawson.

Isack Hadjar is leading the Formula 2 championship and Helmut Marko is very keen to turn V-CARB back into a junior team that develops talent.

That also raises questions about Yuki Tsunoda’s position as although he’s only 24, next year will be his fifth campaign with the team.

If Red Bull don’t believe Tsunoda is ready to drive for Red Bull now then he probably never will be, meaning more change could be coming over the next 18 months.
