Max Verstappen has committed his future to Red Bull Racing, but the team is very quickly changing around him.

At the time, there wasn’t a huge amount of fanfare around Rob Marshall leaving Red Bull for McLaren until he helped mastermind a rapid improvement that won the Woking-based team two constructors’ championships and Lando Norris his first individual title.

Adrian Newey was the next big name to go, before Christian Horner was sacked and Helmut Marko announced he would be walking away at the end of the 2025 campaign.

Which F1 team should Gianpiero Lambiase join if he leaves Red Bull in 2026?

Will Courtenay will join McLaren next year, and now, Max Verstappen’s race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, is being linked with an exit as well.

It’s believed that Red Bull have already decided on Lambiase’s successor within Verstappen’s team should he move on, and his potential availability has alerted several teams in the paddock.

Aston Martin are favourites to sign Gianpiero Lambiase who is ‘on the verge’ of Red Bull exit

A report from the German outlet Auto Motor und Sport has shared more details about Lambiase’s future.

AMuS reports that Lambiase is ‘on the verge’ of leaving Red Bull as he prepares to take on a new role.

Red Bull were preparing to change Lambiase’s job going into 2026, which might explain the emotional final radio messages between him and Verstappen in Abu Dhabi.

Lambiase is said to be in talks with Williams, who emerged last season as the best team in Formula 1’s midfield.

Team principal James Vowles has slowly improved the Grove-based outfit since moving from Mercedes.

Aston Martin have also shown an interest in signing Lambiase, and AMuS believes that they are now the ‘favourites’ to sign the race engineer.

It would mean Lambiase being reunited with Newey, who recently took over as team principal of Lawrence Stroll’s team.

Plenty has been said about that decision, with Newey initially brought in to help Aston Martin build a far more competitive car than what was on display during the 2025 campaign.

Aston Martin could prepare Gianpiero Lambiase to take over Adrian Newey’s team principal role

There are plenty of changes going on at Aston Martin right now, with Andy Cowell moving back into a more familiar role working alongside new power unit suppliers Honda going into 2026.

This should suit him better than being team principal, although there are question marks over Newey’s suitability to that position as well.

Lambiase, therefore, might fit into a more senior role at Aston Martin compared to Red Bull, where he’s unlikely to replace Laurent Mekies any time soon.

AMuS suggests that Lambiase could come in as Newey’s ‘right-hand man’ and then become his long-term successor in the role of team principal.

Not only this, but Aston Martin would be adding another of Verstappen’s most valued allies to their staff.

If they want to replace Lance Stroll or Fernando Alonso, who will both be out of contract at the end of next season, with the four-time world champion, then putting the likes of Newey and Lambiase in place beforehand would make them an attractive option to the Dutchman.
