Ferrari are getting to the stage where Lewis Hamilton’s lack of pace with them is starting to get a bit concerning.
There’s little explanation as to why the Briton has struggled since a winter switch from Mercedes, but he’s down in sixth in the drivers’ championship, without a Grand Prix trophy in 2025.
Hamilton has tried changing multiple things on the SF25, but he’s now approaching a stage where his energy is better placed in the effort for next year’s car.
It means that the last 10 races of the season could be a tough fight for Ferrari, as they attempt to hold onto second place in the constructors’ standings.
According to Gerhard Berger, Hamilton is in a ‘messed up’ situation at Ferrari, and his teammate is the number one driver within the team.
Another ex-Formula 1 star has also weighed in on his predicament, with Damon Hill telling Hamilton he ‘can’t escape’ one problem and that age will inevitably catch up with him.

Ferrari told to make signing that would be like ‘glue’ between Lewis Hamilton and his engineers
Hamilton had ‘complaints’ about a key Ferrari ally, and they don’t appear to have been rectified, despite changes at the Belgian Grand Prix last month. He isn’t happy with his brakes.
It appears that Ferrari have been impacted by a 2025 rule change more than some of their rivals have been, which has slowed them down.
Francesco Cigarini believes that the seven-time champion needs a figure akin to Niki Lauda to help bridge the gap between him and his engineers at Ferrari.
“I made a post [on Instagram] a little while ago, because I was thinking about this situation and it occurred to me that something that Hamilton was very good [at Mercedes],” he told Formula1.it.
“And that doesn’t exist in a role at Ferrari – is a Niki Lauda: someone who acts as a link between the team and the driver, conveying what Hamilton wants perhaps in a slightly less brazen way.
“Someone who acts as a spokesperson and acts as a glue between the whole team and the driver: this was what Lauda could do well and what was good for Hamilton.”
How Lewis Hamilton is currently on a career-worst Formula 1 run of form
Team boss Fred Vasseur was ‘scared’ about one Ferrari change to their rear suspension, but the upgrade appears to have worked on one car at least.
Charles Leclerc had some electrifying pace in Hungary, securing a pole position and leading half the race, while Hamilton battled outside the points.
The 40-year-old is on his longest run without a podium in his entire career, and it doesn’t look like ending any time soon.
A damp weather forecast at the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix offers him some hope of a result, but he’ll have to come up with the goods in a Ferrari car, which struggles in the wet.
