Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has been raving about the recent form of Oliver Bearman.
The 2025 Formula 1 season has seen a group of rookies join the grid and prove exactly why their respective teams took a gamble on them this year.
Isack Hadjar and Andrea Kimi Antonelli have already secured their first F1 podiums, while Oliver Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto have also had standout weekends.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Lando Norris | 390 |
| 2 | Oscar Piastri | 366 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | 341 |
| 4 | George Russell | 276 |
| 5 | Charles Leclerc | 214 |
| 6 | Lewis Hamilton | 148 |
| 7 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | 122 |
| 8 | Alexander Albon | 73 |
| 9 | Nico Hulkenberg | 43 |
| 10 | Isack Hadjar | 43 |
| 11 | Oliver Bearman | 40 |
| 12 | Fernando Alonso | 40 |
The Haas youngster had a tricky start to the year after an incident-filled first race in Melbourne, and Bearman is closing in on a one-race ban due to the number of penalty points he’s received.
However, the 20-year-old’s recent performances have been brilliant, scoring points at each of the last four races and putting himself in contention for a top 10 finish in the drivers’ championship.
Now, Guenther Steiner has warned Ferrari, where Bearman is currently on loan from, that if they don’t act soon, he could be one of the key players in the driver market heading into 2027.

Guenther Steiner says every top F1 team will be trying to sign Oliver Bearman
Steiner was asked on The Red Flags Podcast whether Bearman should replace Hamilton at Ferrari and agreed that it was the right option.
He went on to say: “If Hamilton next year isn’t any good, he should replace him.
“Ollie’s doing a fantastic job; he shows what he’s worth.
“I mean, at the beginning of the year, he made mistakes. Now he’s as clean as they get. I mean, he blows away Ocon, who obviously is a much more experienced driver, paid a lot more money, I guess.
“He blows him away, leaves him just behind. And I mean, I think, if Ferrari doesn’t give him a seat in 2027, I think he will get a seat in one of the top teams anyway in 2027. He will not be hanging around in the midfield, Ollie.
“That’s my opinion, because he shows what he can do. I mean, his drives are so solid in the moment. Fantastic to watch.”
Who will win the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix
Steiner was then asked specifically about other teams trying to poach Bearman and explained: “Fred will not forget to renew Ollie’s contract if he wants to keep him.
“But I think for sure in his contract he’s got something, if in 2027, I don’t know if it’s 2027 or 2028, he’s not in a Ferrari. He’s free to go wherever he wants.
“But for sure, Ferrari’s got some options on him. They paid half of his career to get where he is.”

Ferrari face an impossible decision as Oliver Bearman’s form continues to improve
As Steiner has suggested, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur will know he’s got a very exciting talent on his hands in Bearman.
Steiner has said that Esteban Ocon should be worried based on Bearman’s performances, and after the Frenchman started the season quickly, he’s now been overtaken by his less experienced teammate in the championship.
Bearman has started to cut out the mistakes that were dotted throughout each race weekend at the beginning of 2025.
Will Ferrari ever win a world championship with Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc?
The most eye-catching was his crash under a red flag at Silverstone, which denied him a top 10 start at his first home race.
Ferrari won’t want to lose Bearman, but Lewis Hamilton’s contract runs until the end of 2027, and Charles Leclerc is on an even longer deal.
The Scuderia will know they can’t keep Bearman parked at Haas forever, but telling a seven-time world champion or their most loyal driver to make way for Bearman won’t be an easy conversation.
