Fernando Alonso reflected on the prospect of him getting a top-five finish with Aston Martin this season.
Alonso settled for P15 at the Miami Grand Prix, his best finish this season so far, and the best finish for Aston Martin as a whole.
Alonso’s future has been a topic of discussion in recent weeks, given his age and the lack of success Aston Martin are experiencing at this point in time.
What would you rate the Miami Grand Prix out of 10?
Some believe Alonso will stay in F1 for some time, especially as he would like to wrap up his legendary career on a high note.
But Fernando Alonso has ‘threatened’ to retire the moment he finds some unexpected success with Aston Martin this season.

Fernando Alonso claims he will retire this season under one condition
Speaking to a reporter from Marca after the Miami Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso hilariously claimed that he would retire the instant he earns a top-five finish this season.
“If I manage a fifth place in any race, I’ll retire that very afternoon.”
Alonso also spoke about the tricky racing conditions in Miami, and how he and Aston Martin consistently anticipated rain to give them a chance to move up the grid.
“We were just hoping it would rain. ‘It might rain, we could avoid a pit stop,’ but it didn’t change much because we were one pit stop behind the next car, so even if it rains and they make an extra stop, they’re still ahead of us.
“There’s not much we can do, but we’re trying to learn about strategy management and tire management.”

Fernando Alonso reveals what he told Lance Stroll amid Aston Martin struggles
Speaking to DAZN after the race, Fernando Alonso explained why he told Lance Stroll to understand the current state of the AMR26 before trying to compete with him this season.
“I’m trying to entertain myself with Lance. We always talk about it every morning, let’s see if we are together and, if not, wait for each other or whatever to learn a little about energy management and everything, since we haven’t done many kilometers this winter.”
Alonso might be frustrated with the way things are going at Aston Martin right now, but it’s good to see the legendary driver still have a sense of humour about matters.
Alonso isn’t ready to retire from F1 just yet, and is hoping that Aston Martin can turn things around over the next year to give him a fighting chance in his final year.
But given the extent of their issues this season, he might have to wait longer than he had expected to get his ideal swansong.
