People often wonder if some Formula 1 drivers, past and present, could have achieved more in their careers if things had worked out differently. Michael Schumacher comes into that conversation.

The German driver burst onto the scene in the 1990s, winning his first two titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995. Moving to Ferrari for 1996, Schumacher became utterly unstoppable in the 2000s.

Winning five consecutive titles between 2000 and 2004, a feat that has never been repeated since, he showcased why he is considered one of the greatest drivers to ever grace F1.

Schumacher was a ‘workaholic’ in Maranello, pushing the limits of himself and the team to give them their first drivers’ world championship since Jody Scheckter in 1979.

Schumacher changed Ferrari completely into a dominant force. But that came to a halt in 2005 as Fernando Alonso and Renault began to stamp their authority.

F1 fans think Michael Schumacher would have won another title if he stayed with Ferrari

Schumacher won just once in 2005, bringing his championship-winning streak to a disappointing end. He finished second behind Alonso with seven wins in 2006.

At the end of the year, the German announced that he would be walking away from F1. Ferrari opted to move Schumacher on and sign Kimi Raikkonen alongside Felipe Massa in 2007.

The Finn went on to win the title, beating Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton by just one point. Ferrari had a competitive package, and fans believe that Schumacher could have won more titles had he stayed in Maranello.

Fans discussed on Reddit which driver could have won more championships if they stayed with their current team, and many pointed towards Schumacher and Ferrari.

“I think Michael Schumacher could have won two more titles with Ferrari (2007 and 2008) if he hadn’t retired for the first time in 2006,” said one fan.

Many agreed that the German could have won another two titles with Ferrari: “Schumacher 07 and 08,” said one user. Another echoed: “Schumi stays at Ferrari, easily takes 07 and 08.”

“Easy Michael Schumacher should have never left Ferrari they had 1-2 titles he could’ve won,” one wrote. “MSC. 2007 and 2008 the ferrari was a title winning car. And we know from 2006 the pace he had over Massa. So. It kinda converts,” added another.

Finally, one commented: “Schumacher if he had not been kicked out of Ferrari because they thought they needed the younger (but almost past its prime) Kimi. Schumi would have waltzed that field in 2007.”
