Red Bull suffered a difficult qualifying session at Monza ahead of the Italian Grand Prix and are off the ultimate pace in Italy.
The reigning world champions were the class of the field and dominated the opening stages of the 2024 F1 season, taking four wins from the opening five events.
By contrast, the Austrian team’s last five races have been barren, as they haven’t been on the top step of the podium since the Spanish Grand Prix in June.
Red Bull’s drop-off in speed has been a surprise after dominating the previous two seasons and cruising to both championships at a canter with Max Verstappen.
F1 fans have reacted to Red Bull being the fourth quickest car at Monza

Red Bull floundered at Monza and will start the Italian Grand Prix in seventh and eighth places with Verstappen ahead of hs teammate Sergio Perez.
Fans have posted their opinions on social media as the team continued to run off the pace and out of contention for victory.
@reddwarf40 wrote that despite optimism surrounding Red Bull, they have failed to live up to expectations at Monza. They said: “All that talk about the Red Bull having pace again, the rest hadn’t shown what they had yet. They’re not in the same conversation.”
@ItsNida00 was delighted to see McLaren take pole position and lock out the front row while they thought Red Bull lacked sharpness in qualifying.
They wrote: “McLaren pounced when it mattered most! Norris on pole, and Red Bull caught napping. Monza is full of surprises!
@PapaStew80 was surprised at Red Bull’s setup changes throughout the weekend, as they thought the Austrian team were competing with a rear wing more focused on downforce.
They said: “Red Bull running a med-high DF rear wing is so baffling at Monza.”
Williams performed excellently in qualifying as Alex Albon broke into the top 10 and will start in ninth place. @Charlie_Gaze noted that the Thai driver was very close to matching Red Bull. They said: “Red Bull only two tenths ahead of Alex Albon in the Williams.”
@developerharon jested that Verstappen has failed to take victory in the last five races. “Max Verstappen went from winning 10 times in a row to probably losing 10 times in a row. Isn’t it lovely?”
@_Billieey was surprised at Red Bull’s lack of pace and questioned the reigning champions ahead of the Italian Grand Prix. They said: “What happened in the Red Bull??”
Red Bull may have a difficult Italian Grand Prix ahead of them in Formula 1

Red Bull are unlikely to take victory at the Italian Grand Prix as McLaren looks the class of the field after locking out the front row.
Ferrari and Mercedes also look faster than the Austrian team, and all four of those cars are further up the grid than Verstappen and Perez.
It can be difficult to pass at Monza if multiple cars in close proximity are benefitting from DRS around the circuit.
The Italian Grand Prix may be a day of damage limitation as McLaren have both cars at the front of the field.
