For the first time since 2021, the number one plate will not be on Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in Formula 1.
The Dutchman won four consecutive titles from 2021 to 2024, demonstrating complete dominance over the field. But 2025 brought change, as his RB21 was not up to the McLarens’ pace in the first half of the season.
Sitting 104 points adrift after the Dutch GP, Verstappen enjoyed a resurgence after the summer break, as Red Bull continued to upgrade the car. He finished the season with eight wins, the most of any other driver, with six victories in the last nine events.
Is the greatest season EVER from a runner-up?
However, it was not enough for the 28-year-old as he lost out to Lando Norris by two points. The Brit brought an end to his seemingly unstoppable reign, with Marc Surer saying Norris’ title is ‘good for Formula 1’.
With the McLaren star taking the number one plate in 2025, Verstappen will be looking to reclaim his crown with Red Bull. But the 2026 F1 regulations present a new challenge for him, and the doubts surrounding his car have left people doubting his title chances.

F1 fans remarkably predict Max Verstappen will not win another world championship
The ‘noise in the paddock’ says Red Bull’s 2026 engine is behind heading into pre-season testing in January. This will not be what Verstappen wants to hear, especially when he has an exit clause that allows him to leave before his contract expires in 2028.
It could well be that the four-time champion has to leave Red Bull if he wants to win another title. It seems that F1 fans see it the same way, as they offered an incredible prediction on social media.
Fill in the gap: Max Verstappen will finish his F1 career with _____ titles
F1 Oversteer asked fans on Facebook how many titles they felt Verstappen would finish his career with. Remarkably, they responded saying that he would not win again, with one writing: “4 titles!”
“4. Ford won’t deliver and he’ll retire after 2028,” said one user. Another echoed: “4 – Red Bull are finished.”
One fan replied: “4, if RB and Honda aren’t competitive he could well walk after 2026,” while another said: “I’m a fan and realise 4 is a very real possibility. It’s more about the car than driver and rare to be in the right seat.”
Another wrote: “Honestly, probably 4. He’s been very open about wanting to try other types of motorsports and with his current contract taking him to 2028 he’ll still be just 28, and I’m not sold on the Ford-powered RBR being a frontrunner the same way the Honda-powered one has been the past 5-6 seasons.”

Max Verstappen stands as one of F1’s greats even if he doesn’t win another title
It could well be that Verstappen never wins another championship. If that is the case, the Dutchman would still firmly remain in the conversation for F1’s GOAT.
He is third for overall wins in the sport with 71 and is only behind Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio for championships. Surer says Verstappen is above Ayrton Senna with how much he has learned throughout his career.
Even if he does not win titles, the Red Bull star continues to show his incredible talent, as evidenced by 2025. He came within two points of pulling off the greatest comeback in F1 history.
Romain Grosjean thinks Verstappen’s 2025 season was better than 2021, when he beat Hamilton to his maiden title at the season finale in Abu Dhabi in controversial fashion. He is one of the best to ever race in F1, and another championship will not change that.
