Ferrari chairman John Elkann has hit out at his drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, telling them to focus more on driving rather than talking.
It comes after the Maranello outfit failed to score points at the Brazilian Grand Prix last weekend. Hamilton failed to reach the final part of qualifying for the Sprint or main race before he and Leclerc recorded Ferrari’s second double DNF of 2025.
| RANK | DRIVER | TEAM | POINTS |
| 1 | Lando Norris | McLaren | 25 |
| 2 | Kimi Antonelli | Mercedes | 18 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | Red Bull | 15 |
| 4 | George Russell | Mercedes | 12 |
| 5 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 10 |
| 6 | Oliver Bearman | Haas | 8 |
| 7 | Liam Lawson | Racing Bulls | 6 |
| 8 | Isack Hadjar | Racing Bulls | 4 |
| 9 | Nico Hulkenberg | Sauber | 2 |
| 10 | Pierre Gasly | Alpine | 1 |
Hamilton was handed a five-second time penalty after he hit the back of Franco Colapinto and wedged his front wing under his car. The subsequent damage and loss of downforce forced him to retire on lap 40.
His teammate’s race was over much earlier, as he was caught up in a collision with Oscar Piastri and Kimi Antonelli. The McLaren driver lunged down the inside and hit the Mercedes star, sending him into the Ferrari – Leclerc blamed both drivers for the incident.
Sao Paulo was the latest episode in a torrid year for Hamilton, with the Brit saying he has been in a ‘nightmare’ for some time. This prompted criticism from Ferrari boss Elkann, who claimed his drivers need to ‘need to focus more and talk less’ as they hope to finish second in the constructors’ championship.

F1 fans tell Lewis Hamilton he has their support after John Elkann comments
Posting on Instagram after the Brazilian GP and Elkann comments, Hamilton said: “Brazil. Thank you for all the love, always. In the end, it wasn’t the race we wanted. It’s gutting, especially after some good progress, but we will move on.”
He ended with: “I back my team. I back myself. I will not give up. Not now, not then, not ever.” Fans were quick to comment under Hamilton’s post that they are fully in support of him.
“Come on Lewis we are with you, with the team,” said one user. Another added: “We know you got this Sir Lewis, next year will be better.”
Many are optimistic about the future under the new technical regulations, with one fan saying: “Go for it champ, 2026 is coming!” Another hopes to see Hamilton win a title in red: “YES LEWIS Now lets drag Ferrari to a 2026 championship.”
“We are with you, mate! Don’t listen the bad comments in your team, we will win TOGETHER,” one user wrote, telling him to ignore the noise surrounding him.
Finally, one fan said: “Just hope they back you in return Lewis! The statements made by Elkann are truly irritating to read because you’ve not once threw Ferrari under the bus despite them failing yourself and Charles this year. Whatever the case, keep your head up! We all have your back mate.”

Charles Leclerc breaks silence after John Elkann criticism
Hamilton’s teammate Leclerc also put out a post on social media after Elkann’s comments. Like the seven-time champion, the Monegasque driver reiterated that he will give it everything until the end of the season.
“A very difficult weekend in São Paulo,” he wrote. “Disappointing to come back home with nearly no points at all for the team in what is a critical moment of the season to fight for the 2nd place in the constructors’ championship.
“It’s uphill from now and it’s clear that only unity can help us turn that situation around in the last 3 races.
We’ll give it all, as always.”
As the team sits P4 in the constructors’ standings, Ferrari fans want the 2025 season to end after they failed to score points in Sao Paulo. P2 is still achievable, but it is clear that the Maranello outfit need to be on top form, and above all, unified, to do it.
