Oscar Piastri is one of the drivers who enters 2026 with little to lose and everything to gain if he can perform well.
He fell short of a maiden drivers’ championship by just 13 points last year, held back by a slump in the second half of the season.
McLaren need no reminder of his talents, having watched him build an incredible lead in the first half of the campaign.
But Piastri has to find another level if he wants to seal the deal in the future. Who knows whether he’ll ever get the chance to compete for another title?
Will Piastri have a better career than any driver on this list?
Piastri will give Lando Norris his most difficult race at the season-opener in Australia, as he looks to make up for a mistake he made there last year.
Now that winter’s over, Piastri made a bullish statement about McLaren and is confident about their ability to roll out yet another winning car, despite new regulations for 2026.

F1 fans are worried by Oscar Piastri’s form in the second half of F1 seasons
Max Verstappen thinks Piastri sold his ‘soul’ by failing to ignore team orders at Monza last year. It was the race that started a bit of a slump.
He would go on to go six races without making the podium after that, ruining his hopes of beating his teammate to the title.
It’s something that fans noticed too, and think is a weakness. Talking on Reddit, some people are ‘worried’ about the Aussie’s form.
“True, but that’s the second year in a row he’s essentially fallen off a cliff during the second half of the season. I hope he doesn’t do it again this year, or he will start to be looked at differently,” said one fan.
“It’ll be interesting to see how he tackles the new regs. I’m a bit worried it’s an adaptability issue where he can’t keep up with the car’s development over a season,” replied another.
Another individual could see the idea behind it, saying, “That would make a little sense because if you look at Lando, it was the exact opposite. He hated the car when the season started and said he didn’t have a great feel for the car, but as the upgrades came, he seemed to get a better feel for the car.”
“It’s not really about the time of year,” added another fan. “The vast majority of his wins last year were at medium/high grip circuits, and almost all of the times he missed the podium were at low grip circuits. I don’t know what he can do to improve on that, but he certainly needs to soon.”
Some have opted to keep their faith in him, saying, “Oscar can definitely win one if he keeps up the consistency, and I think he can do it.”
And finally, one last individual felt that 2025 ended how it should’ve: “I mean, the outcome for Oscar was completely fair, his season was clearly worse than Lando or Max, and he lost through his own mistakes and lack of pace.”

Why Oscar Piastri no longer has any excuses to hide behind in 2026
Piastri is entering his fourth season in Formula 1 now and is relatively experienced. He has spent plenty of time at the same operation.
With the exception of the new cars that everyone has to deal with, there shouldn’t be anything that’s alien to Piastri this year.
He has been involved in a title battle, he knows how to win, take pole positions, and beat his teammate.
Now he needs a culmination of all those things, for more than half a season, to come out on top. The Mercedes engine is expected to be strong again, so there won’t be anywhere to hide.
