The end of the Formula 1 season is quickly approaching and this is typically where the majority of moves in the driver market would take place.
However, Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari accelerated that process, forcing teams to commit to their 2025 drivers much earlier than anticipated.
Only the second seats at RB and Sauber have yet to be decided and neither manufacturer is in a rush to make their final call.
However, that means teams were rushed into calls earlier in the season that they might not necessarily have made now.
Although Nico Hulkenberg will be the German driver Audi desire when they enter F1 in 2026, it must be hard for him to watch the current trajectories of his current Haas team and the pointless Sauber outfit he’ll be racing for next year.
Carlos Sainz was the man to miss out at Ferrari when Hamilton’s move was confirmed and after months of negotiations, finally picked Williams as his next team.
But there may be a few doubts creeping in at the Grove-based team about spending millions on the Spaniard when Franco Colapinto has performed so well in Logan Sargeant’s place and doesn’t have a drive for next year.
Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, former team owner Eddie Jordan was discussing the fate of another driver with David Coulthard.

The driver under the most amount of pressure on the grid currently is Red Bull star Sergio Perez.

The Mexican driver may have a contract for 2025, but Red Bull have inserted clauses in Perez’s contract that could allow them to let him go over the winter.
Jordan was incredibly critical of Red Bull’s decision to retain a driver who is no longer driving at his peak.
Eddie Jordan furious with Red Bull over Sergio Perez decision
Talking about Perez’s upcoming home race at the Mexico City Grand Prix, Coulthard said: “It’s a big weekend for Checo Perez off what was again another, let’s say, average performance in Austin.
“If the crowd can’t will him into a sort of more competitive position, remember last year, there was that contact at the first corner and what looked like it was so good, just didn’t quite work out.
“So he was very clear in Austin that he’s here. He’s got a contract. He’ll be racing for Red Bull Racing next year.
“But it just feels like, you know, can the team at that level of performance continue to accept it? It’s a big weekend for him.”

Jordan replied: “They’ve screwed up. His time ran out. You know, in life, sometimes you put milk in the fridge. It goes sour, doesn’t it? It goes sour.”
Coulthard joked: “Not sometimes. It will always go sour eventually. The fridge will not stop something going off.”
Red Bull already sounding out potential replacements for Sergio Perez
Perez’s father recently admitted he believes his son can still be an F1 world champion but it’s hard to see that ever coming to fruition.
He’s never going to be the number one driver at Red Bull, even if Max Verstappen decides to move on.
Red Bull are looking at signing Oscar Piastri to either partner Verstappen or replace the Dutchman is he ends up joining the likes of Mercedes or Aston Martin.
In the immediate future, Liam Lawson is seen as an increasingly viable option to replace Perez, while Yuki Tsunoda is a candidate for a Red Bull promotion according to Helmut Marko.
Another driver outside of the Red Bull group that they’re looking at is Colapinto.
RB could bring Colapinto in to replace Lawson or Tsunoda if they end up racing for Red Bull as the Argentinian doesn’t have a seat for 2025 yet.
