Sky Sports F1 commentator has said that Mercedes powertrains managing director Andy Cowell would be a fantastic signing for Ferrari in 2025.

The biggest driver change of 2024 – so far – has seen Lewis Hamilton switch from Mercedes to Ferrari next season.

Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast, David Croft believes the 55-year-old would be one of the best people the seven-time world champion could take with him to Maranello.

David Croft thinks Andy Cowell would be a great Ferrari signing

There’s going to be a lot of discussion to see if any current Mercedes staff join Lewis Hamilton is making the switch to Ferrari next year.

Toto Wolff is not going to want to see any of his key people join one of Mercedes’s biggest rivals next year.

He’ll be especially frustrated considering that after the race in Bahrain, Ferrari seem to have the edge over his team.

Lewis Hamilton will want the strongest team around him as he aims to win a record eighth world championship.

The 39-year-old will know exactly why Ferrari should pinpoint if they do want to raid his old team.

David Croft has admitted that Andy Cowell would be an ideal addition for Ferrari.

The heralded engineer has played a major part in Mercedes winning multiple drivers’ and constructors’ championships in the last decade.

Would a reunion with Hamilton in Italy appeal to him?

Ferrari and Mercedes could end up tussling over key personnel

Speaking about who Ferrari should be looking at, Croft said: “The quadrant, by the way, is not your best chassis man, you want your best engine man as well.

Presenter Simon Lazenby asked: “Are you going to say Cowell?”

Croft replied: “I’m going to say Andy Cowell.

“Well, Andy Cowell the man who was responsible for the Mercedes rocket ship from 2014 onwards, who’s worked closely with Lewis Hamilton, they’re still friends, they still talk away from the track as well.

“If you could get Adrian Newey and Andy Cowell to go with you to Ferrari if you were Lewis Hamilton, wow, what a four-timer that is.”

Croft also wouldn’t be against seeing Adrian Newey and Cowell both following Hamilton to Ferrari.

That trio would be incredibly powerful, although you wouldn’t see an immediate improvement in performance given the complicated work Newey and Cowell do.

However, that combination would finally deliver the championship they’ve been waiting so long for.
