Formula 2 is not shy of top talents on the grid in 2026, and David Coulthard has his eye on one driver in particular.

Formula 1 has seen more F2 drivers step up to the pinnacle of motorsport in recent years. 2026 championship leader Kimi Antonelli made his debut with Mercedes last year after one season in F2.

The most recent graduate, Arvid Lindblad, is having a strong debut season with Racing Bulls this year, and Coulthard thinks another Red Bull junior is one to watch for the future – Nikola Tsolov.

David Coulthard tells F1 fans to ‘listen to that name’ in Nikola Tsolov

Tsolov is having a brilliant season in F2. He is leading the championship by 17 points after winning the last three races in a row, including a double victory at Silverstone.

The Bulgarian is being backed as a future talent, and it has even been suggested that he is on the F1 radar. Spanish media reported that Tsolov is joining Racing Bulls in 2027.

After watching Tsolov in F2, Coulthard is telling people to listen out for him as he expresses his excitement about his F1 prospects.

He said on the Up To Speed podcast: “Yeah, it’s a good problem to have. I guess there’s always a possibility if they’re happy with the others that they could help position him somewhere else.

“I think Red Bull are ahead of the game in terms of their motorsports investment and drivers over the history of time, if you look at what they’ve invested and now what the valuations are.

“So, I don’t think they’re thinking, ‘Oh, we’re getting to the limit of what we can afford to invest in this.’ So, it’s a good problem to have, but I think, yeah, listen for that name.

You’re in charge of Red Bull, who are you signing for Racing Bulls’ 2027 line-up right now?

“Nikola Tsolov, from Bulgaria, drives very well. Is [a] great personality out of the car as well. So, yeah, looking forward to seeing him in Formula 1.”

Racing Bulls are not planning on signing Tsolov at the moment. Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad are out of contract in 2026.

But the team could have a space for him. Red Bull are worried about Max Verstappen retiring and leaving them needing to call up Lawson or Lindblad – it would open a seat for Tsolov in Faenza.
