Liam Lawson’s seat at Racing Bulls is reportedly at risk after it has been claimed that a Formula 2 driver is set to join the team for the 2027 season.
Lawson, 24, has been putting in decent performances in recent months for Racing Bulls, having finished in the top eight in Canada, Monaco and Barcelona.
The New Zealander currently sits 10th in the world championship standings, having scored 28 points so far in 2026, 15 points more than his rookie teammate Arvid Lindblad.
In truth, Lawson has managed to rediscover his form after he was brutally replaced by Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull just two races into the 2025 season.
However, despite his promising start to the 2026 season, it was recently claimed that Lawson is ‘under pressure’ at Racing Bulls.
What would Liam Lawson have achieved if he was given more time at Red Bull?
F2 driver Nikola Tsolov has ‘secured’ Racing Bulls seat for 2027
Now, it seems that the pressure is only going to get tougher, with Spanish news outlet SoyMotor claiming that an F2 driver has ‘secured’ a seat with Racing Bulls for 2027.
It has been suggested that Nikola Tsolov will drive for the Racing Bulls team when the 2027 campaign gets underway.
The 19-year-old, who currently drives for Campos Racing in F2, is said to have impressed Red Bull’s ‘decision-makers’ with his performances in the lower formulas.
According to SoyMotor, Lawson’s future could be up in the air with Tsolov’s arrival, and it could also hinge on whether Max Verstappen decides to commit his future to Red Bull.
It has been noted that the ‘entire F1 market’ will depend on Verstappen, who is reportedly yet to make a final decision on his future.
The report went on to state that if Verstappen decides to stay with Red Bull, Lawson appears to be the ‘most likely candidate’ to lose his seat.
However, if Verstappen opts to continue his career elsewhere, Lawson could be handed another lifeline in the sport.

Who is Nikola Tsolov?
Tsolov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and began karting back in 2016, when he became a Republican champion before winning the Bulgarian Mini class in 2017.
Having been nicknamed ‘The Bulgarian Lion’, Tsolov was part of the Alpine Academy from 2022 to 2024 before joining the Red Bull Junior Team in 2025.
He has also won a title in the F4 Spanish Championship before finishing second to Rafael Camara in the 2025 F3 season.
The 19-year-old also became the first driver to join Fernando Alonso’s A14 Management along with Clement Novalak.
So far in the 2026 F2 season, Tsolov has scored 80 points and is currently in second place behind Gabriele Mini.
