The United States Grand Prix is the first Formula 1 event of the season where Daniel Ricciardo won’t be racing for RB.

RB decided after the summer break that it was time to replace Daniel Ricciardo with young Kiwi Liam Lawson for the final six races of the campaign to confirm both of their driver line-ups for 2025.

Only Max Verstappen’s seat for next year appears to be safe, with Helmut Marko confirming Yuki Tsunoda is a candidate to replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull.

This puts additional pressure on a quartet of drivers who each have goals to aim for in both championships, as Verstappen attempts to hold onto his lead over Lando Norris to win his fourth straight title.

Ricciardo will unfortunately be following the race in Austin away from the track after failing to do enough to convince Red Bull that he deserved Perez’s seat going forward.

Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, David Coulthard has talked about the next steps Ricciardo should now be taking with his F1 career all but over.

Ricciardo’s popularity reached another level after Drive to Survive was created by Netflix and the Australian was the star of the show.

Coulthard has suggested that Ricciardo must capitalise on his stardom immediately.

It’s very easy for drivers to be forgotten about once they leave the sport and even a year away from the spotlight could make Ricciardo a less relevant voice in the paddock.

However, it all comes down to what the Australian wants to do and whether a return to F1 so soon after losing his seat is on his agenda.

David Coulthard tells Daniel Ricciardo what he needs to do immediately after RB exit

Talking to Eddie Jordan about Ricciardo’s exit, Coulthard said: “We wish him luck and it’ll be interesting to see [what he does next].

“We haven’t really heard anything, any announcement from Daniel’s camp to know what he was doing.

“But I certainly, if I was them, I would have Daniel either in Austin or any of the American races.

“It’s such a great platform for him as an individual. But he’s got a great personality. He’s got a voice.

“And it’ll be interesting to see if it actually gets deployed with any of the stations or with Formula 1 itself. But we shall see.”

Jenson Button left stunned by the nature of Daniel Ricciardo’s RB exit

A decision on Ricciardo’s exit and Lawson’s reintroduction to RB was made in Baku which made what happened across the Singapore Grand Prix weekend even more bizarre.

Ricciardo seemed sure at the start of the weekend that his immediate F1 future wasn’t in any doubt, however, his mood changed after being eliminated in Q1 leaving him with a mountain to climb to try and even score points.

Although Ricciardo came away with the fastest lap, he wasn’t able to make enough progress in the race to ever challenge for a place in the top ten.

Jenson Button has admitted that Ricciardo’s RB exit was unlike anything he had seen in his career up to that point as on the surface the 35-year-old wasn’t necessarily underperforming the car.

However, Red Bull already have one eye on 2025 and that means giving both RB drivers every opportunity to prove themselves before the end of the campaign.
