David Coulthard has suggested that the domination of Red Bull is beginning to worry him after a processional Formula 1 season in 2023.

F1 fans are now incredibly familiar with the Dutch national anthem after Max Verstappen stood on the top step of the podium 19 times last year.

In an interview with the Telegraph, David Coulthard has shared one aspect of the sport that he thinks is concerning right now.

Coulthard admits Red Bull domination is a worry

Teams and drivers dominating Formula 1 is nothing new and has been happening for decades.

Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappen have all won multiple titles on the bounce.

It’s been a problem that the sport has had to try and tackle for a long time, but last year was statistically the most one-sided year in Formula 1’s history.

Only Carlos Sainz prevented Red Bull from winning every single race in 2023 and Verstappen cantered to plenty of race wins without breaking a sweat.

Coulthard has now said that it’s a worry for the growth of Formula 1 watching Red Bull open such a gap over the rest of the field.

Teams like Mercedes are already making positive noises ahead of the 2024 season, but only time will tell if they’ve managed to close the gap on their nearest rivals.

Will Red Bull dominate F1 again in 2024?

Speaking about the current state of Formula 1, Coulthard said: “That expression ‘familiarity breeds contempt’? If you adapt that to sport, the same thing goes.

“Too much success kind of takes away the magic. With sport, we look to be inspired, to grow, to move forward, and if one team is doing all that, then it doesn’t give enough hope for everybody.”

Plenty of F1 fans will agree with Coulthard that they would like to see Red Bull’s stranglehold on the sport end soon.

In terms of qualifying times, the grid is closer than ever, but no one can get close to Christian Horner’s team during the race.

If the likes of McLaren and Mercedes can make some small gains on a Sunday then Coulthard’s worries might be abated.
