Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has now shared what simulator driver Anthony Davidson thinks about their 2024 car just a month before pre-season testing begins.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will be working hard behind the scenes to make sure this year’s car is in the best position possible to challenge Red Bull.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Toto Wolff was talking about extending his time at Mercedes and his ambitions going forward.
Last season was a disappointing one for the team despite the fact they finished runners-up to Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship.
They didn’t win a single race and their performance fluctuated heavily throughout the year.
Lewis Hamilton went from hunting Max Verstappen down in Austin – albeit getting disqualified after the race – to barely being able to drive his car in Brazil.
That inconsistency would have really worried Mercedes and they would have known just how important it was to develop a car that could deliver reliable performances every weekend.
Toto Wolff has now explained what Anthony Davidson has told him about the 2024 car after working with it on the simulator.
Obviously, there’s no substitute for track time, but with testing now limited before the season starts, it’s the best work they can do right now.
It will be fascinating to see how Hamilton and Russell get on in Bahrain next month when they finally get a chance to drive the car.

Wolff shares what Davidson told him about the 2024 car
Sharing what Davidson told him on a phone call about the car, Wolff said: “He was driving Melbourne [in the sim.
“And he said: ‘The car feels like a car for the first time in two years…’
“Obviously, I would love this to correlate to the track but we’ve seen in the last two years that this was not always the case.”
Sky Sports pundit Bernie Collins has admitted over the winter that she hopes Mercedes have a whole new car heading into this season.
Wolff and Hamilton were both very uncomplimentary about last year’s machinery and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they scrapped the entire thing to challenge Red Bull this year.
Hamilton has been tipped to challenge Verstappen for the title this year if he has the right car underneath him.
Wolff will be pleased with what Davidson has told him about the 2024 car, but as last year’s vehicle showed, even if it drives well in Melbourne, it might not look good in Bahrain.
If they can fix that issue, then they’ve got a real chance of finally breaking their race-winning duck.
