Daniel Ricciardo suffered a lacklustre qualifying for RB ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, failing to get out of Q1 and setting the 16th fastest time.

The Australian driver was out-qualified by his teammate Yuki Tsunoda, who qualified eighth at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Ricciardo is enduring a difficult time in Formula 1, and his future hangs in the balance as Red Bull have some young talent in their junior team.

New Zealander Liam Lawson has been linked with a full-time seat at RB, and he could even be replacing Ricciardo from the United States Grand Prix next time out.

The Australian driver looked dejected in the media pen after his Q1 elimination in Singapore, another difficult day for the RB driver.

He offered a cryptic response when asked about his future in Formula 1 as Ricciardo struggles in the midfield, speaking to the BBC.

Ricciardo has only scored points on three occasions so far this season and is behind his teammate Tsunoda in the championship.

He has struggled in the midfield, only offering moments of brilliance and rarely being able to score points this year.

Lawson is the key contender to replace Ricciardo, and he made minimal errors when he raced for AlphaTauri last season, scoring an impressive ninth place in Singapore.

The 35-year-old could be at the end of his Formula 1 career after struggling to adapt to modern ground-effect cars since 2022. Ricciardo could be playing tennis after finishing in Formula 1, recently revealing his love for the sport.

He was far from his usual energetic self after being eliminated in qualifying and said “we’ll see” when asked about his future.

“I watched Daniel Ricciardo walk around the media pen and he had a smile on his face,” the BBC’s Rosanna Tennant said. “I asked about the smile on his face and he said that it was “fake smile”. I then asked if that was his last qualifying session in F1 and he said “we’ll see” and turned.”

RB need to focus on training young drivers despite Daniel Ricciardo’s experience

Throughout most of its history, RB has been a team fully focused on giving opportunities to young drivers in the Red Bull junior team.

They have given chances to Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen throughout their history. Lawson is likely to be the next rookie given an opportunity. The New Zealander would have been far from impressed by Ricciardo in Singapore as he struggled.

Red Bull also lacks much talent in the junior ranks aside from Lawson, as there isn’t another candidate who would slot into an F1 race seat for 2025.
