Daniel Ricciardo has shared what the Visa Cash App RB star would like to do if not a Formula 1 driver directly amid doubts over his future past the Singapore Grand Prix.

This weekend may mark the last time that Ricciardo lines up on a Formula 1 grid as Red Bull weigh up the 2025 Visa Cash App RB line-up. While Yuki Tsunoda is tied down for next term, the second seat at the Faenza team is now one of just two still vacant for next season’s field.

Audi holds the keys to the other remaining seat with Sauber still to sign the teammate of in-bound Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg. But while many drivers are available, it is now a straight shootout between Ricciardo and Liam Lawson to convince Red Bull they should be in the RB.

Daniel Ricciardo reveals ‘love’ for tennis amid doubts over his Visa Cash App RB future

So, Red Bull are expected to use the last six rounds of the 2024 season to see how Lawson fares with Visa Cash App RB. The New Zealander is widely touted to replace Ricciardo for RB at the United States Grand Prix and see out this term to yield a direct comparison in the car.

It means this weekend’s Singapore GP could prove to be Ricciardo’s 257th and last F1 Grand Prix. He debuted in the pinnacle of motorsport with HRT in the 2011 British Grand Prix, and has gone on to record eight wins, 32 podiums, three pole positions and 1,329 points to date.

Yet, in perfect timing amid doubts over his future at Visa Cash App RB, Ricciardo has opened up about what he would be if not a Formula 1 driver in the Singapore GP paddock. In a Q&A with Mothership, the 35-year-old shared that he would have loved to be a tennis player, too.

“I love tennis,” Ricciardo noted. “I love one-on-one competitions. So, yeah, I probably would have tried to become a tennis player.”

Daniel Ricciardo will look to go out on a high in the Singapore Grand Prix

With the Singapore Grand Prix potentially Ricciardo’s last Formula 1 race, the Australian will look to go out on a high and leave Red Bull with a reminder ahead of Lawson coming in. The Perth native finished fifth when he last raced at Marina Bay with McLaren back in 2022, too.

McLaren had already announced that Oscar Piastri would replace Ricciardo before he shone in Singapore. Qualifying was not his day with the 35-year-old only able to secure P17, whilst Lando Norris took P6, but a safety car after Tsunoda crashed gave McLaren a cheap pit stop.

Coming back out in P6 and moving into P5 before the chequered flag at the 2022 Singapore GP returned Ricciardo’s best result of his final season at McLaren. He will now look to give Visa Cash App RB a similar result after sitting out the 2023 edition after fracturing his hand.

The 2023 Singapore Grand Prix was the third of five races Ricciardo missed after crashing in practice for the Dutch Grand Prix to avoid Piastri’s stricken car at Hugenholtz Bocht. Lawson stepped in for those races and scored his first and only points with AlphaTauri in Singapore.
