Lando Norris has closed the gap to Oscar Piastri by eight points with his double victories in Austria and Silverstone.
The Briton faced a 20-point deficit heading into the European swing of the season after crashing out of the race in Canada in the final laps, but he’s now got himself back in the hunt.
Norris dominated the race in Austria, while his performance in the British Grand Prix was helped by a spin from Max Verstappen and a penalty for Piastri for a Safety Car infringement.
Piastri was livid at the situation in Silverstone and even went as far as asking McLaren if they would swap cars at the end of the race, having led it for most of the afternoon.
Martin Brundle thinks McLaren should expect ‘fireworks’ after seeing Piastri angry, while Damon Hill thinks Norris is becoming ‘dangerous’ for the Australian when speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Show podcast.

Damon Hill thinks Lando Norris is becoming ‘dangerous’ in McLaren title battle
McLaren delivered an upgrade to Norris’ car in Canada which gave him a better feel for the grip at the front, and ever since his results have picked up.
Hill expects to see a more competitive Norris heading into the summer break, now that the momentum has swung in his way.
“I think Lando’s got the momentum. I think he’s found his traction. You know, he’s found his footing. So like when you’re trying to climb up a very steep hill and you can’t get traction, I think he slipped a few times,” said Hill.
“Now he’s just managed to get his feet to grip, and he can push off from there. So yeah, I think I always thought Lando in a race is faster than Oscar.
“I think he had a few nervy qualifiers. So he dropped a few [poles] with getting into the last few moments of the last run of a qualifying session. But now, his head is settling. I really do. And then I think he’s dangerous.”
Lando Norris told he will see ‘scary’ Oscar Piastri trait
Piastri’s former teammate in Formula 3, Frederik Vesti, was quick to praise the Australian for the adaptability after the race in Silverstone.
Vesti believes Norris must look out for a ‘scary’ trait that he once had to deal with Piastri during engineering meetings.
| Position | Drivers' Championship | Points |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | 234 |
| 2 | Lando Norris | 226 |
| 3 | Max Verstappen | 165 |
| 4 | George Russell | 147 |
| 5 | Charles Leclerc | 119 |
Norris will be hopeful he can capitalise on this momentum at the upcoming circuits, including Spa and Hungary, before the summer break.
