Damon Hill has admitted he’s been really impressed by the way Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has led the team recently.

Hill was speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast after a fantastic weekend in Interlagos for the team.

Aston Martin have gone from being Red Bull’s closest competitor at the start of the season to struggling to score points in the middle of the field in recent races.

Fernando Alonso was simply sensational during the first eight races, securing six podiums for the team in that time.

He couldn’t quite achieve that much coveted win and the wait has now extended for more than 10 years since he last stood on the top step of the podium.

Aston Martin’s pace started to suffer halfway through the season with Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren all catching up to them as the year went on.

They’re likely to finish fifth in the Constructors’ Championship although a strong last two races could see them leapfrog McLaren if things go their way.

Damon Hill has praised the work team principal Mike Krack has done this year considering the challenges that Aston Martin have faced.

Their planned upgrades throughout the season didn’t have the desired effect, but their performance in Brazil suggests they’ve still got a very quick car.

They now have to build on that going into 2024 and hope they can provide Alonso and Stroll with a machine that can challenge the almighty Red Bull.

Hill praises Aston Martin team boss Krack

Speaking about the Luxembourgish team boss, Hill said: “I think Mike Krack is very good and that team, they seem to have the right approach.

“I think he mentioned it in Ted’s Notebook actually that he said that when they were down, they didn’t start blaming each other.

“The guy’s come from Ferrari and I can probably say without saying something that’s not been said before about Ferrari, I think their heads go down and then it’s a problem.

“Whereas the story from Fernando was that after the bad results, within Aston Martin, they got the right approach and they learned what they got wrong and they’ve fixed it and he’s happy about that.

“Now, that would definitely come from someone like Mike at the top to get everyone to deal with the challenge in the right way.”

Plenty of fans will join Hill in his praise of Krack after a fantastic third and fifth place for Aston Martin in Brazil.

Alonso’s battle with Sergio Perez was one of the best pieces of action we’ve seen in F1 this season and the Spaniard came out on top by the barest of margins.

His future at the team has been questioned but it’s unlikely he’s going anywhere before next season.

Alonso’s experience will be vital to any success the team enjoys next year.

Alongside a team boss who knows how to get the best out of his employees, they could be on to a winner in 2024.
