Charles Leclerc’s recent frustrations at Ferrari have raised questions about his future at the team, and the Monegasque driver has addressed rumours linking him to an exit in 2027.

Ferrari have had a tumultuous campaign in 2025. What was expected to be a challenge for the title through their star-studded line-up of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton has turned into a frustrating year for the Tifosi.

The luxury automotive company’s CEO, John Elkann, certainly didn’t help the cause with his fiery comments, in which he blamed his driver line-up for the sub-par performances that they have recorded as of late.

One theory suggests that Elkann’s comments were spurred on by the recent links between Leclerc and Aston Martin. However, recent comments from the Monegasque driver have quashed the speculation.

Charles Leclerc dismisses talks of a potential switch from Ferrari to Aston Martin

During his Thursday afternoon media duties ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, Leclerc was asked about the rumours that linked him with a potential switch from red to green for the 2027 campaign.

The eight-time Grand Prix winner immediately shot them down, telling Sky Italia, “Certainly, when we are going through a difficult period, and this team is going through it, there is always a lot more noise and things surrounding the team.

“As I have always said, I love Ferrari, and the only thing that matters to me is that it does not interfere with the way we work.

“And I’m not seeing that, so that’s the thing that makes me happy, that we are very united and very motivated to try to turn the situation around.

“I really hope we can have a special weekend, and I’ve been saying this for too many weekends, but it’s not that we’re not trying, I’m trying to do everything I can to silence those rumours.”

Despite this, there is no doubt that the calibre of Ferrari’s F1 cars has held back the talents of the 28-year-old.

For example, Guenther Steiner believes that Leclerc would have already tied up the 2025 title if he were at the wheel of McLaren’s MCL39 in a testament to the current Ferrari star’s abilities.

Nicolas Todt on Charles Leclerc’s future

“He’s not a baby anymore because he has done a lot of seasons with Ferrari and of course, I think that we still need to have a winning car… We hope next year Ferrari will have a very good car.”

Charles Leclerc has thrashed Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari teammate head-to-head this season

One of the most telling signs of how much Leclerc has overachieved during the current term can be seen through the Ferrari teammate battle, in which he is currently thrashing Hamilton.

The seven-time world champion has struggled to get to grips with Ferrari machinery.

Across the 19 Grands Prix that both drivers have been classified in after the chequered flag, Hamilton has finished ahead of Leclerc on just three occasions.

Their one-lap pace tells a similar story, with the Brit outqualifying his Ferrari counterpart just five times so far this year.

After being presented with the startling statistics, Hamilton played them down as Leclerc’s superiority being aided by his seven years of prior experience in Maranello.

One of the biggest differences in the head-to-head is Leclerc’s podium count. The Monegasque has recorded seven top-three finishes so far in 2025, whilst Hamilton is yet to record any.

The sport’s most successful driver is now on the cusp of recording his very first season in F1 without securing a single podium.
