The FIA could reportedly ban Cadillac’s 2026 Formula 1 because it doesn’t comply with the regulations. The newcomers unveiled their design in an advert during the Super Bowl.

Cadillac ran with a temporary Shakedown livery during the first test in Barcelona but switched to their final 2026 colours in Bahrain.

Graeme Lowdon’s squad completed over 300 laps during last week’s test, more than four teams. While they are still expected to be at the back of the grid, spirits appear to be high after solid mileage.

Sergio Perez did experience some problems as the final test got underway on Wednesday morning before taking to the track in the second half of the session.

Cadillac’s asymmetrical F1 livery breaches the regulations

The regulations stipulate that the colour schemes on F1 cars should be symmetrical. The left hand side of the car is white, while the right is black.

According to Bild, the FIA ‘could ban the livery’ as a result, forcing Cadillac to make a change before the Australian Grand Prix in just over a fortnight.

Cadillac have formed partnerships with companies like Tommy Hilfiger, Claro and Jim Beam, all of whom would have to be consulted on any alterations.

As Bild’s report notes, the team spent €20m (£17.4m) on their Super Bowl commercial, but may now have to abandon the design they showcased.

Cadillac are releasing a documentary about their journey to reach the F1 grid, narrated by actor and racing fan Keanu Reeves.

While the General Motors subsidiary are one of America’s motoring giants, Lowdon has had to build the F1 team from scratch, albeit with the help of a Ferrari engine deal.

While an exact date hasn’t been confirmed, the series is expected to be released before the start of the season, putting it in the same window as Drive to Survive season eight.

Perez and Valtteri Bottas are trying to play down expectations for Cadillac’s first season, stressing that the early results don’t matter.
