Cadillac are now telling staff they won’t ‘have a job anymore’ unless they move to the US

Cadillac are reportedly losing staff after demanding that many of them relocate from Great Britain to the United States.

2026 debutants Cadillac are effectively a transatlantic team operating out of two bases – one at Silverstone, one in Indiana.

While their ‘HQ’ is officially in the US, their UK facility features a technical, production and logistics centre. They don’t yet have their own wind tunnel, instead using Toyota’s in Cologne.

Cadillac face staff exodus over US ultimatum

The majority of Cadillac’s key staff, including team principal Graeme Lowdon, technical director Nick Chester, chief designer John McQuilliam and engineering executive Pat Symonds, are British.

As they built a new team from the ground up, it made sense to hire veterans. Indeed, it has recently emerged that Red Bull’s chief engineer Paul Monaghan will join Cadillac too.

Attracting staff, or indeed retaining them, could be more difficult long-term, because they want to shift the heart of the team away from the UK ‘Motorsport Valley’.

On the Paddock Access podcast, journalist Jacky Martens reported that employees are already receiving an ultimatum. If they don’t agree to relocate to Indiana, they risk losing their jobs.

“In the last few years, they hired a lot of people to work for the team,” Martens explained. “They’re now based in England, and they’re going to bring the organisation back to the US, to Indianapolis.

“They basically said to their employees, ‘You can choose. You can come back to the US, and if you don’t want to do that, it’s done, you don’t have a job anymore.’

“What you see now is, already, lots of people are quitting their job at Cadillac, or searching for a new one elsewhere.”

Cadillac owners General Motors are planning to build their own power unit in Michigan in time for the 2029 F1 season.

Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas are still searching for the team’s first point, but they have spent much of the season battling fellow strugglers Aston Martin.

Haas, the other American team on the grid, have stationed their corporate division in North Carolina, but the bulk of their race team works in the UK and Italy.
