American racer Jak Crawford has set his sights on being a Formula 1 driver after announcing that he will be doing another season in the feeder series Formula 2.

The 19-year-old will take part in his third F2 season with DAMS next year, having currently sat fifth in the standings this season.

Crawford had a mixed season with mostly top 10 finishes, while he won the Feature Race in Spain and achieved podiums at Silverstone, Spa, Bahrain, and Baku.

He is currently part of the Aston Martin Young Driver Development Programme after being released by Red Bull at the end of the 2023 season and has already impressed those within the team.

Crawford could potentially be the next talent from the US to make it to the grid if he performs well in F2 after Logan Sargeant was ousted midway through this season at Williams.

The American is hopeful for more opportunities to impress at Aston Martin, having had a couple of tests with them during this season.

“I have another year promised with Aston Martin. Maybe I will find an F1 opportunity with them, or maybe not, said Crawford.

“One change we made is bringing in Harry Soden and the team at Infinity Sports Management to assist with how I can be on the F1 grid as early as 2026, but no later than 2027.”

Jak Crawford shares the best driver verdict between Max Verstappen and Michael Schumacher

Rookie drivers often end up sharing the track with some of their idols growing up, with Oscar Piastri doing that with Fernando Alonso and Franco Colapinto with Lewis Hamilton.

Crawford was asked earlier in the season who he thinks the best driver is between Max Verstappen and Michael Schumacher.

The American claimed that he felt Verstappen was the faster driver, simply due to his sheer speed compared to the seven-time World Champion who was more methodical.

Gerhard Berger also claimed that Verstappen was one of the best because he ‘never makes mistakes’ which followed his dominance last season when he won 18 races out of a possible 22.
