Formula 2 driver Jak Crawford has given his verdict on the greatest F1 driver of all time debate and made an interesting claim about Max Verstappen and Michael Schumacher.

The discussions over the best Formula 1 drivers ever will rage on with drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Alain Prost always in the conversation.

Speaking on the Track Limits Podcast, Jak Crawford has now had his say on the matter.

It’s important to remember that Crawford is only 18 years old and will barely have any memory of Michael Schumacher at his peak, let alone any of the drivers who dominated the sport before him.

The likes of Prost, Ayrton Senna and Nelson Piquet are unlikely to mean an awful lot to teenagers getting into Formula 1 these days.

Instead, they’ve grown up watching the likes of Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappen showcase their impressive talents.

Formula 1 is enjoying one of its strongest periods right now, but the domination of Hamilton and Verstappen has meant that several drivers who might have won championships in the past have missed out.

However, Crawford has now shared his thoughts on Schumacher and Verstappen in the F1 greatest of all-time debate.

He’s made a couple of big claims that not every Formula 1 fan would agree with, particularly if you’re a big Lewis Hamilton fan.

Crawford shares Schumacher and Verstappen opinion in greatest F1 driver debate

The 18-year-old was asked by the presenter: “[Who is] the greatest F1 driver of all time in your opinion?”

Crawford replied: “I think [Michael] Schumacher has to be. I’d say [Max] Verstappen is probably the fastest of all time, but looking at everything Schumacher did he is.”

For Crawford to say that Verstappen is a faster driver than Schumacher and Hamilton is a huge claim.

Off the back of the 2023 season, it’s easy to see why he might say that.

The Dutchman was unstoppable and his domination of Sergio Perez showed that although the car was the quickest on the grid, he was peerless in terms of his outright pace.

However, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have both enjoyed similar periods of dominance in their careers.

He’s still got to win four more championships to match the seven-time winners during his career.

Gerhard Berger has claimed Verstappen ‘never makes mistakes’ and based on last season that’s certainly true.

Even his rivals on the grid believe that he’s better than everyone else he’s racing against in several key areas.
