Aston Martin have been accused of solely fighting Cadillac in the 2026 Formula 1 season after deciding to hold off on their upgrades for the AMR26.
Battling with F1 newcomers is certainly not what was expected of Aston Martin at the start of the year. Having appointed Adrian Newey as team principal and secured Honda as an engine supplier, they were tipped for top results.
But fighting with Cadillac is exactly what they are doing. The AMR26 is desperately unreliable, thanks to severe vibration issues and the Honda engine’s lack of power. Unbelievably, Cadillac have registered just one DNF so far, compared to Aston Martin’s five.
Valtteri Bottas will score more points than Sergio Perez for Cadillac in 2026 – Change our minds
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are accidentally saving the battery with the AMR26 being so slow in the corners. They desperately need an uplift in fortunes, but the mood around the team at Silverstone is completely dull.
Karun Chandhok says ‘everyone’ at Aston Martin is ‘depressed’ over their situation as they find themselves stuck at the back of the grid with Cadillac. At the moment, they are arguably losing the battle with the Americans, and that does not look like changing.

Aston Martin accused of entering a ‘world championship with Cadillac’ in 2026
Top results look almost impossible for Aston Martin to achieve in 2026. In fact, Alonso joked he would instantly retire if he grabbed a top-five finish.
Upgrades are desperately needed to improve the car and get them off the back of the grid. F1’s ADUO should provide that, but as commentator Antonio Lobato notes, those updates are not scheduled to come until race 14 in Madrid.
Subsequently, he has accused the team of entering a ‘world championship with Cadillac’, as they have provided no information or optimism about their situation.
“There’s this lack of transparency that is currently at Honda and Aston Martin – they don’t tell you anything, they don’t tell you which way to go,” said Lobato via SoyMotor.
When will Aston Martin score their first podium of the Adrian Newey era?
And will they get one at all?
“They must have a clear idea, I hope. But you do say, ‘Come on, the duo,’ don’t you? Everyone saying, ‘Those poor chaps at Aston Martin.’ No, well, the duo should be given the chance to improve the car, but they’re going to improve it. How?
“Is there a plan right now? Are they working on it? Because up until now, all they’ve been telling us is, ‘No, no, no, we’re not thinking about performance, we’re only thinking about getting rid of the vibrations and improving reliability.’
“OK, but the world championship against Cadillac is coming to an end. Were we going to think about something else or not? And there’s no answer.
“The only one who’s said anything has been Fernando, who, of course, as some people like you get all fired up, ask him, ‘Well, and from now on in Canada, now that both cars have crossed the finish line?’ In Canada, it’s going to be the same car. He says, ‘Nothing new will be brought in until race 14.’ Race 14.”
