Anthony Davidson explains why Alex Albon made ‘dangerous’ Kevin Magnussen comment during Dutch Grand Prix

Alex Albon felt Kevin Magnussen pulled off a ‘dangerous’ move while defending P11 during the Dutch Grand Prix.

The Williams driver was behind Kevin Magnussen going through the banked final corner, Arie Luyendyk, when the Haas driver appeared to move late on Alex Albon when trying to defend his position.

When the pair emerged out of the corner, they were four-wide along with Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso, with Magnussen getting relegated to P14.

Albon said over team radio that he felt Magnussen was “boxing me in on purpose” before remarking “It’s just dangerous. Same as Monaco” to his engineer James Urwin.

The Williams driver previously voiced his concerns over the driving of Yuki Tsunoda in Monaco when the Visa CashApp RB driver nearly broke his front wing with his defensive manoeuvres.

Analysing the incident on Sky Sports, former F1 driver Anthony Davidson gave his thoughts on whether Albon was justified by branding the move dangerous.

Albon went on to finish in P14 after being disqualified from qualifying and being forced to start from the back of the grid, due to technical infringement with his floor.

Magnussen, who also started from the pit lane because he changed his battery, dropped to P18 after his tyres began to drop off in the final part of the stint.

Davidson felt that Albon was right to highlight the conduct of Magnussen after the stewards did not decide to investigate the incident.

“If the stewards had a look at that I’m not sure they would be overly happy as Alex Albon was not,” said Davidson.

“I can see why he came out on the radio to say that. [Magnussen] slowing down on the exit of a high-speed corner like that, I don’t really think it’s on.”

Alex Albon ‘suffered’ by having Logan Sargeant as teammate

Williams team principal James Vowles believes Albon has ‘suffered’ having Logan Sargeant as his teammate, because the American has not been operating at the same level.

There are rumours that Sargeant could be replaced before the end of the season due to his crash in FP3 over the Dutch GP weekend, which required a chassis change and him to start from the back due to missing qualifying.

It was a double-whammy for Williams at a track they have historically scored points at, with Albon finishing in P8 last year.

Two candidates are reportedly in line to replace Sargeant: Liam Lawson and Mick Schumacher. While Schumacher has been tipped as the most likely replacement, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has not ruled out a potential switch for Lawson.
