Oscar Piastri’s chances of winning the 2025 Formula 1 title are fading away after he was disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The Australian is on a rotten run of form at the worst possible time. He was more than 30 points clear after his win at Zandvoort, but he has now fallen far behind his McLaren teammate.
Who will win the 2025 Formula 1 drivers’ championship?
Piastri has not finished on the podium since Monza and has not beaten Norris or Max Verstappen in that time. The streak continued at the Las Vegas Grand Prix as he qualified and finished P5.
The 24-year-old was promoted to fourth after a penalty for Kimi Antonelli, but things got worse as Piastri and Norris were disqualified after the race for excessive plank wear. With just two races to go, his title chances are becoming slimmer by the day.

Andrea Stella says Oscar Piastri ‘needs’ the will to win the final two races to win the 2025 title
Heading into the Qatar GP next weekend, Piastri must outscore Norris to keep his title hopes alive. But given his current form, it will be a tough challenge.
Speaking on Sky Sports F1 (23/11, 6:04 am) after the Las Vegas GP, McLaren boss Andrea Stella told Piastri that he ‘needs’ to have the ‘will’ to win in Qatar and Abu Dhabi if he wants to win the title.
“My view is that mathematics is what counts. Oscar needs to go into the two final races with a will to win them and take it from there,” he said.
“It’s still a very exciting and interesting finale of the season, so Max, Lando, Oscar, everyone will just go onto the next race thinking: ‘We need to win and we’ll see what happens.”

Oscar Piastri is in a horrible situation in the 2025 title fight
Qatar and Abu Dhabi are now absolutely critical for Piastri. He simply has to beat his rivals if he wants any chance of becoming the champion in 2025.
But his slump in form has clearly taken its toll on him. While Norris appears calmer and focused on his craft, Piastri’s steely demeanour has started to fade.
Anthony Davidson says Piastri’s qualifying pace has regressed in recent races. It has been a major reason for his downturn in form, with Norris grabbing three pole positions in the last three events.
David Coulthard says Piastri has fatigue, saying that is the ‘only’ thing he can use to explain his poor form. He will need to overcome that if he wants to win the title this season.
