Sergio Perez potentially has two races to save his Red Bull Racing career after another disappointing race.
A mistake on his out-lap during the first section of qualifying saw Sergio Perez lose control of his Red Bull on slick tyres at Copse and become stuck in the gravel.
He eventually started from the pit lane but was supposed to line up alongside Pierre Gasly on the back row of the grid as a result of his mistake.
The race didn’t go much better for Perez and although Red Bull’s gambles with his strategy didn’t pay off, he wasn’t making much progress through the field before the rain started.
Former F1 racing driver Alex Wurz was a guest on the F1 Nation Podcast and reflected on another difficult Grand Prix for the Mexican driver.
Unsurprisingly, the pressure is beginning to increase on Perez despite only signing a new deal with Red Bull just over a month ago.
Perez has performance clauses in his contract and at this stage, he appears to be failing to fulfil two key aspects of his new deal that would allow Red Bull to make a driver change in the summer break.
Wurz has now suggested that Perez losing his Red Bull seat might not be the worst thing in the world for the 34-year-old.
He has now suggested that he may be able to return to his best if he joins another team on the grid instead.

Sergio Perez told to consider Red Bull switch by Alex Wurz
Asked if a driver can come back from the struggles Perez is currently dealing with, Wurz said: “I think yes, but I think it’s very difficult.
“I would almost think if Checo [Perez] would simply go to a different team, if he would get a chance, he would come back as a very strong driver who on a good day is able to win Formula 1 races.
“But with this cloud of [Max] Verstappen hanging over him, there’s no oxygen for him to breathe to refresh his brain.

“There’s no life elixir to kickstart the trust in yourself and this is really, really difficult to be against such a strong teammate.
“He’s more and more on the back foot, he’s fundamentally not a bad driver, he won races.”

Sergio Perez potentially has two races to save his Red Bull career after Silverstone
The pressure on Perez has been building for some time and handing him a new contract before the Canadian Grand Prix has not had the desired impact at Red Bull.
He’s quickly falling behind not only Verstappen but his other rivals within the top four teams, with Oscar Piastri the latest driver to overtake him after Silverstone.
George Russell would have leapfrogged him too were it not for his unfortunate retirement, while a win for Lewis Hamilton means Perez is just eight points away from dropping to 8th in the Drivers’ Championship.
Two F1 teams are considering Perez should Red Bull sack him which would give him the chance to reset that Wurz has suggested.
He’s more experienced than many of the available free agents and some time out of the spotlight at Red Bull could do him some good.
However, Formula 1 is a sport all about confidence and if Perez doesn’t feel like he can give 100% then he’s likely to struggle even if he’s driving for someone further down the grid.
Everyone is going to be watching him very closely at the Hungaroring and Spa to see if he can do enough to save his Red Bull career.
