Charles Leclerc is seriously considering his future at Ferrari if they cannot provide a competitive car in 2026, with Aston Martin keeping tabs on him.

The Monegasque driver is growing frustrated with his lack of success in Maranello. While Leclerc has consistently proven that he is one of the best drivers over one lap, he has not been able to fight for a championship.

He scored all seven of Ferrari’s podiums in 2025, while teammate Lewis Hamilton went without one for the first time in a calendar year. Finishing fourth in the standings, both drivers are growing agitated and want to see improvements under the 2026 regulations.

True or false? Charles Leclerc will not win an F1 title with Ferrari.

If the Maranello outfit cannot build a competitive car, then the duo will certainly be considering their options. Leclerc has an exit clause in his contract, which runs until 2029, and several teams have already been linked with signing him for 2027.

Aston Martin are among those interested in the 28-year-old, with Fernando Alonso’s contract set to expire at the end of the 2026 season. He would certainly be a strong signing for the Silverstone outfit, and Adrian Newey knows it.

Adrian Newey thinks Charles Leclerc’s driving style would best suit his car at Aston Martin

The legendary designer, who will also act as Aston Martin’s team principal in 2026, is looking to take the team to glory under the new regulations cycle. Leclerc could be the key to their success if they can strike a deal for the Ferrari star.

Aston Martin view Leclerc as a ‘future leader’ as they weigh up their options for 2027. Newey is also fond of the Monegasque driver, and journalist Ralf Bach has heard that the Aston Martin boss feels that he is best suited to his car.

“Well, there’s Aston Martin,” he said via F1-Insider. “I emphasise at the moment that he is one of the top drivers that you really need to have and I think Aston Martin knows that too above all.

“Because I’ve heard through the grapevine that Newey, the opinion is that Leclerc’s driving style is most suited to Newey’s car, which he has always built around Verstappen at Red Bull in recent years and that was fastest when the driver could handle it.

“So I think Leclerc is very highly regarded by Adrian Newey, just based on his driving style, which is said to be most similar to Max Verstappen’s.

“That could play a huge role now for a designer like that. Otherwise, Leclerc can also blow it. As said, like Russell, he is also back on the test bench.

“He has won twice against Hamilton now, but he has to do it again. If Hamilton turns it around now, Hamilton can extend his career as a result.”

Are Ferrari giving Charles Leclerc a reason to stay beyond 2026?

Aston Martin could release Lance Stroll early, opening the door for Leclerc to join Newey’s project. But before then, he will assess Ferrari’s trajectory in 2026.

Ferrari are finally listening to Leclerc and Hamilton’s demands for the car, with the SF-26 set to be a more predictable machine. Both drivers struggled in 2025 as Fred Vasseur focused on a new radical suspension design, which ultimately failed.

The Maranello outfit are trying everything they can to show their golden talent that he should stay put. Ferrari could launch a recruitment drive and sign a number of top engineers to convince Leclerc to stay.

However, Ralf Schumacher has heard about a Ferrari ‘disaster’ ahead of the 2026 season. Leclerc will surely not put up with another season out of contention for the championship.
