The Formula 1 driver market is going to be fascinating in 2026 after a year of relative stability.
Arvid Lindblad will be F1’s only rookie this year, but one of the teams under the most pressure to perform and keep their drivers happy is Ferrari.
An underwhelming 2025 campaign has left Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in limbo.
The latter had a tough start to life with the Scuderia, and Hamilton eventually finished 86 points behind his teammate.
Finish the sentence: In 2027, the Ferrari driver line-up will be…
Leclerc has had to put up with Ferrari underachieving throughout his career, finishing second in the drivers’ championship once but never really being in contention to threaten Max Verstappen.
Ferrari have set their ‘primary goal’ for 2026 as they know that if they miss the mark once again, Leclerc will be a hot topic in the driver market.
Two of Ferrari’s rivals are now taking a closer look at the Monegasque driver’s situation: Mercedes and Aston Martin.

Aston Martin see Charles Leclerc as a ‘future leader’, but 2027 Mercedes move could be ‘poetic’
A report from Grada3 has shared more details about Leclerc’s Formula 1 future.
It’s believed that Leclerc is willing to give Ferrari ‘one more chance’ to build a competitive car at the start of the upcoming regulation changes.
The 28-year-old is ‘growing tired’ of Ferrari failing to deliver, and knows that starting on the back foot this season could subject him to years of playing catch-up.
Leclerc has been ‘strongly’ linked with both Mercedes and Aston Martin if he decides to move on.
Mercedes have ‘always valued’ Leclerc’s talent, and it would be seen as ‘poetic’ if he departed for the Silver Arrows two years after Hamilton made the reverse switch.
On top of this, Aston Martin are looking for a ‘future leader’ who can take over from Fernando Alonso when he eventually decides to retire.
Leclerc very much fits that mould and would be confident he could beat Lance Stroll in an intra-team battle, although Aston Martin’s interest in Verstappen will still be on the team’s mind.

Charles Leclerc’s ‘now or never’ warning could prove pivotal in 2026 F1 driver market
Leclerc was asked if he still believes Ferrari can develop a championship-winning car during his post-race press conference in Abu Dhabi last year.
He replied: “I do, and next year will be a crucial year.
“The whole team is hugely motivated for next year, because it’s such a big change, a huge opportunity to show what Ferrari is capable of. It’s now or never, so I really hope that we will start this new era on the right foot, because it’s important for the four years after.”
“By race six or seven, I think we’ll have a good idea of who are the teams that will be dominating for the four years after.”

As mentioned above, Verstappen’s Red Bull stance will be of interest to every team in the paddock if Red Bull underperform.
Oscar Piastri has been linked with a McLaren exit amid concerns over team orders, and there will be a host of other drivers who are out of contract at the end of 2026 hoping to jump into a quicker car.
However, if Ferrari find themselves outside the top echelon of cars at the start of the upcoming campaign, Leclerc’s name will be the one on everyone’s lips.
