Former F1 team principal Eddie Jordan has suggested he would love to see Max Verstappen joined at Red Bull by Williams star Alex Albon.
Red Bull have a big decision to make this year, with Sergio Perez’s contract set to expire at the end of the 2024 season.
Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, Eddie Jordan was discussing the £45,000-a-week driver’s future.
It’s already been suggested that the expected driver movements this year are going to be led by Alex Albon.
Journalist Will Buxton believes he’ll be a ‘major player’ in the market with his contract down to the final 12 months.
The issue for Red Bull is finding a teammate for Max Verstappen who is competitive enough to help him win races, without challenging him every week.
While Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton would probably love to drive the Red Bull because it’s so superior to the rest of the grid, the balance of the team simply wouldn’t work.
Jordan believes that Albon has the potential to be one of the fastest drivers on the grid and would be the perfect partner for Verstappen.
The pair raced together back in 2019 and 2020 and the Thai driver had rotten luck.
At Williams, he’s shown just how fast he is, almost single-handedly dragging the team to seventh in the Constructors’ Championship.

Jordan wants to see Albon partner Verstappen at Red Bull
Speaking about the 27-year-old, Jordan said: “I have a real soft spot for [Alex] Albon. I just think if given the right situations then I think he could really, really be mustard and I would like to see at some stage that he be given the chance alongside Max [Verstappen].
“I think he might be a big surprise!”
Williams team principal James Vowles has admitted that on track, Albon has become an ‘aggressive creature’.
He’s admitted that his targets don’t line up with his current team’s and Jordan’s suggestion that he should join Verstappen at Red Bull isn’t a bad one.
However, he will know all too well that Red Bull do tend to hire from within when it comes to replacing their drivers.
Daniel Ricciardo appears to be the most likely player to replace Perez should Red Bull choose to let the Mexican leave.
Many are already writing the 33-year-old off, but if Red Bull are once again first and second in the driver’s standings, then they might not see a reason to replace their current driver pairing.
