Williams driver Logan Sargeant had a qualifying session to regret in Abu Dhabi that will do his future prospects at the team no good.
Simon Lazenby, Naomi Schiff and Damon Hill were discussing the 22-year-old’s prospects of staying on the grid for Sky Sports F1.
It was a difficult qualifying session for plenty of drivers with the lack of running in practice having a big effect for some drivers.
Lewis Hamilton was disappointed to drop out before the top-ten shootout and explained that his car was incredibly
McLaren driver Lando Norris could have put his car on pole position, but a mistake in the final section means he’ll now start 5th.
However, no one struggled more than Logan Sargeant who didn’t even manage to set a time in Q1.
He succumbed to track limits on both his flying laps and will start the race from the back of the grid after a tricky first practice session.

Sargeant’s future in Formula 1 still hangs in the balance and his start to the weekend in Abu Dhabi has done him no favours.
He needs to have a strong race today to prove to James Vowles that he deserves another year at Williams.
Sargeant future under threat in Abu Dhabi
Speaking about the young American, Sky presenter Simon Lazenby said: “Well I wonder if that’s the final nail, he had it there, it was a mistake, he’s admitted it. He’s hanging by a thread, isn’t he?
Naomi Schiff replied: “I mean, that’s not going to be a tick in James Vowles’s book and a reason to keep him in the seat.
“But you know, tomorrow’s still an opportunity for him to wow them. I mean he has said he’s waiting right until the end of the season to make that decision but I wouldn’t want to be in his boots tonight.
“I think he’s going to be kicking himself for that. He didn’t lose the lap once, he lost it twice. So to make that mistake twice when you know how crucial that moment is for you, it’s not a good feeling I’m sure.
Damon Hill saw the positives for Sargeant and simply added: “Still got a race tomorrow.”
Plenty of young drivers will have an eye on how Sargeant performs in Abu Dhabi today, with the American’s future hanging in the balance.
Every other team on the grid decided to stick with their current line-ups for 2024.
Alex Albon has easily outperformed his inexperienced teammate which should come as no surprise.
However, the team will be concerned by Yuki Tsunoda’s superb qualifying performance as it could cost them seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship.
