The start of the 2025 Formula 1 season hasn’t gone as smoothly as Red Bull Racing would have liked.
Max Verstappen is chasing a fifth consecutive drivers’ championship but the early signs that he can achieve that aren’t promising.
Verstappen finished second behind McLaren star Lando Norris at the Australian Grand Prix but should realistically have finished third were it not for Oscar Piastri’s error during the final downpour.
Red Bull will be pleased that they appear to be the best of the rest behind McLaren, but team principal Christian Horner has several issues he needs to iron out quickly.
Firstly, a full investigating into Liam Lawson’s underwhelming weekend must be undertaken by the team.
Lawson was warned his first Red Bull race would be tough but may have underestimated just how tricky it was going to be.

It was a nightmare start to his first full Formula 1 season and while a deficit between himself and Verstappen is expected, the gap was far too large for Red Bull to be satisfied with his performance.
Horner posted on social media after the race to give his insights into what went well and what went wrong for the team.
Unsurprisingly, Red Bull’s fans weren’t happy as they discovered that their car is inferior to McLaren’s and the decision to promote Lawson hasn’t immediately paid off.
Red Bull fans upset after reading Christian Horner’s Australian Grand Prix comments
Horner posted on Instagram after the race and said: “That was a great race to watch.
“@maxverstappen1 did well to overcome the challenging conditions, showing his usual class in the wet to take P2.
“It was not the start Liam would have wanted this weekend, but he is a strong driver and will already be on his way to bounce back in China.”
However, Red Bull’s fans weren’t happy and in his replies, many demanded that he find a way to fix their car, while others were already unconvinced by the decision to swap Sergio Perez for Lawson.
One comment read: “Bring back Perez! Fix the car. Please. Thank you.”
Another said: “Max deserves another championship please give him at least [a] competitive car”
One reply demanded: “Please fix the car. Yes it’s the first race but if the car is like this every race it’s going to be a long season”

Another comment read: “Another year of Max carrying the team, forget the construction championship as you only have one partially competitive car and one championship driver.”
One Red Bull fan criticised the team’s strategy and said: “If Max had been allowed to change his tyres when he was demanding it, he would have ended up in 1st place easily.”
A final point was made by one fan who simply said: “Let’s improve that car please.”
Max Verstappen’s complaints have to be addressed immediately by Red Bull
After the race, Verstappen seemed relatively positive despite not winning the race and was quick to congratulate Norris after they got out of their cars.
Verstappen could have potentially won the race with a different strategy but it would have required a serious gamble from Red Bull’s strategy team.
Talking about the race, Verstappen admitted that there are still clear improvements that can be made with the car.

He said: “The conditions were fairly difficult and slippery but we managed to keep it out of the wall and stay out of trouble, which was the most important thing, so I am happy with that.
“It was hard for us to pass the McLarens, and we were struggling with the tyres overheating and tyre degradation.
“I think this is even more evident on intermediates as the compound is even softer than the slicks.
“They were better at controlling the temperature of the tyres and were pulling away from us quite easily, so it will help a lot if we work to keep our tyres in a better window.”
